I'm so sorry I didnt go straight for my BSN

Ok so I had enough of this...I have been applying to literally like thousand of hospitals and I got turned down because I dont have my BSN or experience, so if I knew what I know now I would definitely go straight for my BSN and not only that I would have made sure I worked at hospital as nurse's aid during my NS.

So to all of those who are planning to become nurses or are in the Nursing school, please do not make the same mistake I did, try to work as a nursing assistant during your nursing school or go for your BSN

THanks..

Have you though about applying somewhere other than a hospital, I too had the same problem. I applied at a really nice LTC center and I am making more than then I would in the hospitals. I will eventually work in a hospital but they want either a BSN or 1-3 years experience. I plan on working there while completing my BSN and gaining experience.

well, if it's any consolation. I have a BSN, what I think is a great resume, great experience, just graduated in May and NO ONE will touch me with a 10 foot pole. It's just the time, a few years ago no one cared what ADN/BSN degree you had...don't be too hard on yourself. We are all in the same boat it seems.

I agree with the previous poster. It sure does stink, but I was an aid before getting my license, and lost my job because it was out of my scope of practice. There was no job that just "opened up" for me because I had worked there. Many BSN new grads, ok most where I am, don't have jobs yet either. Try really hard not to get bitter about nursing, remember why you went into this!!

Yes, I agree with all of the posts. I have 2 friends that have their ADNs and got hired right away a couple of years ago, so it has a lot to do with the job market. Don't get discouraged. Keep applying and networking, and maybe take this time to apply to and RN/BSN program.

Is there a dream job in nursing and if so, WHERE?

I know its frustrating BUT regardless of what degree a new grad has earned, ADN or BSN, they are still having trouble finding a job. I have some friends that recently graduated from an ADN program, they were able to find jobs. Perhaps it's the area of the U.S. you live in. Some places have a shortage, others don't. And the economy being the way it is, many hospitals are not looking for new grads because training a new grad costs more money than an RN with experience. That's the impression I've gotten thus far.

It is the market, not the degree.
