I'm getting terminated from my first nursing job

I have violated a hospital policy, not in patient care or a hippa violation, but I've made a mistake of hooking up with a coworker in the parking lot after work. This ended up to the manager, and we had a meeting with HR, and now I'm on a leave. They claimed it was a sexual act on the company premises and there is witnesses.

I'm devastated, i feel completely retarded and that shouldn't have even happen, but people make mistakes, I'm a hard worker, and now awaiting their decision, there's 90% i'm getting fired because of this.

The thing i'm worried about is what's going to happen if i applied to other jobs, would this affect me at all? is it confidential or what is going to happen?

if anyone has an insight on this will be much appreciated

I apologize, i didn't know where to post this, i'm just stressed out and beating myself everyday for this mistake.

It sucks you are going through this. You obviously realize in retrospect it was a bad idea.

Years ago when I was working as a tech a male co-worker offered to walk me to my car, which I had parked on the street, off hospital property. Once we got to my car he threatened to rape me. While I was shaken up, I did not tell my boss because it happened off the clock off hospital property. Fortunately, my boss found out through the grape vine and he was disciplined anyway. Unfortunately he was not fired, and after a few months they started making me work with him again

I know that it's stupid, you don't need to repeat that, it's irresponsible and immature. but it happened and nothing i can do about it now.

Well, dear, you're not going to get it here. Dumb things, by definition, do not get support. You asked. Take your medicine and go forth and sin no more. At least not on hospital property.

kind of sounds like you're jealous of her getting some action. what's the matter? not getting any? lol don't answer the question, I probably won't bother reading it anyway. What you should of done with yer 'ol self was assist her with some good ol' nurse advice.. After all you're in "nursing" to help people arent you? patients as well as colleagues. and if you answered no to that question, god help us and your future patients, for they will have no idea that you lack such compassion.

I agree with GreenTea, this was not a mistake. However, I am not here to judge you. You had poor judgement, and had a moment of weakness. Everyone, has done something that they knew was not right.

So where do you go from here? Well I need more info. If you have a long history with this job then you must put it down as a reference. My advice would be to resign(if you have the option) as having terminated on your record is not a good thing.

Start looking for a new job ASAP. We don't want any gaps. When asked why did you leave your last job? Don't admit to being busted on the hospital parking lot getting your swerve on. Just simply say" I enjoyed my opportunity there however I'm looking for something that better fits my(insert here)."

thank you so much.... I have an 8 month experience in the ER. I been applying to positions everywhere and i have been thinking of resigning instead of getting fired to increase my chances to finding a job. is that a good idea?

I don't know that any of us have compassion for someone who couldn't manage to, oh I dunno, GO SOMEWHERE PRIVATE before attempting to get it on. And that has absolutely no bearing on our practice of nursing.

you are human correct? and if you want to call protocol, you might want to do a self-check on what things you might have done that were questionable in the hospital and ask again if that has bearing on your practice of nursing. im not accusing, just saying. some self-introspection goes a long way.

8 months of ED should not be thrown away. You have to use it as a reference. So, yes if you think your are going to get fired, ask if you can resign.

I would put down in the hobbies section of the applications that you like to have sex with co-workers in the hospital's parking lot. After all, honesty is the best policy and it will save you the worry on whether your former employer will tell them when they call to ask for a reference.

End sarcasm mode.

But seriously, weren't you concerned about having someone see you? What if some patient or family member went in to the hospital and told someone, BTW there is some couple having sex in your parking lot. You would have been much more embarrassed if that had happened.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you did ask for opinions. Sometimes we don't always hear what we want and in life you have to take the good with the bad.
