Just found out I passed the NCLEX yesterday and I wanted to introduce myself because I'll be hanging around the "First Year After Nursing Licensure" page for the next 364 days.

My name is noyesno. I graduated from an ADN program in December of 2010. I also have a bachelors in nutrition (dietetics). I decided I didn't want to be a dietitian during my senior year of college (I worked with a few dietitians one summer and did not find the work very rewarding) and pursued nursing right after graduation.

My short term career goal is to work med/surg for about 5 years while pursuing a MSN to become a FNP. [i'm also kind of interested in becoming a certified diabetes educator but the path to becoming a CDE seems a little complicated to me and I'm not sure where this would fit in during the 5 years.]

Long term, I'd like to work in public health or maybe in one of the Walgreen's Take Care Clinics. I've worked for my local park district for a really long time and in college I volunteered as a stress management peer educator and facilitated stress management workshops throughout the campus community. I absolutely love being involved in the community. I also like working with kids. Maybe school nursing? I still need to iron out these long term plans a little.

I have an interview this upcoming Thursday for a med/surg position. I'm really hoping to get the job because interviews are really hard to come by these days. I feel like it's my only chance. :eek:

While a little scared and nervous, I'm sincerely looking forward to these next 364 days as a new RN. I know it's going to be very challenging but my hope is it will also be very rewarding too.

*ahem*... actually, they need to change this to the first two years after nursing licensure. after one year you will see a difference in your nursing but it will not be that big of a difference... it takes at least two years to be comfortable to some degree, which is why most of us hang around after one year. :rolleyes:

We ought to change the forum name to first (two) year(s) after getting first nursing job! I have seen soooo many that took 6 mo to 1 yr just to GET a job!

I got the job I interviewed for today. I start mid-March. It's a busy ortho/neuro/trauma unit at a level 1 trauma center. Wish me luck! :)
