I need some info

  1. Hi I'm new at this. I am entering my third clinical semester in a couple of weeks. OK first of all almost all of my classmates have worked in a hospital over the summer. I did not due to the fact that I have three kids and wanted to spend my last summer with them. But now I'm really scared that everyone is going to be more experienced than I am. I told my last clinical professor that I wasn't working and she agreed that my kids needed me and told me not to worry about it---but now I am. I learned so,so much but yet I still feel like I don't know enough (know what I mean?) Another thing I'm thinking about is how do I write a resume without any experience except for school? I don't know maybe I'm just starting to panic. It's just that I know graduation is going to be here before I know it and I have not a clue of what to do after that. I also very badly want to be a labor and delivery nurse. What are the chances of getting trained in a specialty area right after graduating? Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

I don't think I would worry to much about it. I did not work in a hospital except for my clincials and was offered a job right away on an oncology/bmt unit. I got 8 weeks orientation and did fine. Just be honest about what you don't know and ask for help.

I agree,, you wont have to worry if you want to work in a hospital. Most hospitals know who they want to offer positions before you graduate anyway. Word of mouth from the nurses you work with during clinicals will go where it needs to.
As far as feeling like you dont know anything. I have my license and will be off orientation on Friday and i still dont feel like i know anything yet. It just takes time.
Relax and enjoy the kids while you are off. Time to worry about working and stuff comes soon enough.

nyangle...enjoy the time you have with your kids. I worked as a jr. accountant and had no hospital experience other than my clinical. On my resume, I just emphaized more on clinical experience. I'm on orientation now and feel as tho I dont know much. But with time, I'm sure that will change. =)
I know two of my classmates who got positions on L&D as a new grad. Most hospitals are in need of nurses that you can find many positions opened. Good luck~~!!
