HESI & NCLEX Advice

My pinning was this past Thursday, yaaaayyyy! :D On Jan. 15th, we're taking the HESI and then after that, we'll be able to take the NCLEX. I've heard of a lot of people failing the HESI...some have failed 3 times so far (from the previous grad. class). I'm a pretty strong student and I don't have too many problems doing NCLEX questions over and over again. Anybody else have any advice besides getting the HESI NCLEX book?

Are all of the versions the same at each school?

annoying....

The V3 or V4 are not different than the V1 with regard to difficulty. I just took the HESI and passed on the first try with a 1037.

Here's what I did...

1st. Don't stress... you know this stuff. The test is testing a candy coated version of nursing because that is what the NCLEX tests.

2nd. Do any and ALL evolve questions you can get your hands on... even if you have to buy the case studies with practice tests. Do them all, know them all backward and forward.

3rd. Don't study the night before the test.

4th. I would recommend doing a review course, HESI offers one, Hurst, Kaplan, etc... These really help you to just look at the questions differently. They kind of teach you how to outsmart NCLEX lady. Our school offered it to us right before our test, and we ALL passed the HESI, plus two HESI specialty exams.

I hope this helps.

Best of luck

my two cent...if you can pass HESI, you are golden for the NCLEX!

HESI was ten times harder than the NCLEX, at least with my experience. That being said, I studied for almost 4 weeks straight before HESI, so my knowledge base was huge, very strong, and fresh in my mind. If you have to study for HESI and you aren't taking the NCLEX for a while (more than a month later), make sure you keep your knowledge fresh in your mind with a few daily reminders like flashcards or drug lists, etc.

Good luck!

I don't think there is really any way to study for HESI. You can review in the HESI book, but you either know ur stuff or you don't. Personally, the more I studied for the HESI, the worse my scores were. When I took the exit HESI we had a few study groups and I took the night off before from doing questions. I passed and am now looking forward to passing the NCLEX.:)
