Heartbroken

I am a new nurse in an ICU and I was told by my director and human resources that I would be receiving critical care pay once off orientation. I found out today that I have not been receiving it and I thought I was because that is what I was told. I was told today that I can not get the extra pay until after 1 year, but this pay is not given because of experience, it is given because ICU nurses receive more pay in our hospital. I am off orientation doing the same amount of work and I am not receiving the same pay. What really bothers me more than not receiving the pay, is that I feel I was lied to because I was told I would be receiving the pay once off orientation. I don't know how to resolve this issue.

Sorry it happened to you. It sucks that they told you that. Not sure if you can do anything since your director and HR told you, you were not gonna get it. Hang in there time will fly.

But when I was offered the job, I was told I would be getting that pay once off orientation. I was lied to.

Well, you could go to an employment attorney and make a big to do over it. If it was in writing you might have a chance. But you would be creating bad blood. And you know the third way to deal with it. Find a new employer who doesn't lie to new hires. The second way to deal with it is to just go to work every day and see what happens. Depends on how much you want to keep this job without having to face bad feelings every day. Sorry this is happening to you. If it helps any, this is not the first time that employers have said one thing and done another when it comes to pay.

You have a good point. The year is almost up. I signed a 2 yr contract as a new nurse. I am in a RN-BSN program now and when my 2 year is finished, I will have my BSN. After that, I will look at other options. Right now I will just take this as a learning experience and learn everything I can. I am the kind of person who hates to change jobs, but I need to look at other options.

Just remember it is not your fault that this happened. They would have lied to any other applicant. Sometimes people start to feel as if they had done something wrong when the truth is that they are just dealing with unethical people. Best to be wary of liars in the workplace. And good luck finding something better when you have a BSN.

As an "x" hospital worker the best advice I can give you is, DON'T MAKE WAVES, I paid dearly for the waves I made!
