Northern Vermont: GN's start at $23.53 and go up within one year of hire to about $1 more an hour.

Base pay in the Hartford, CT area is anywhere from 25.25 to 26.75/hour not inc. differentials.

    S. Central FL around $19 base.
My hospital differentials are about 7% evenings, 15% nights, NO weekend differential. Call pay $2.
The FL cost of living has risen a lot in the last couple of years (everywhere but especially in non-coastal areas that were formerly pretty cheap) & pay hasn't caught up.

    Hello everyone,

I am just curious to find out your state of practice and your starting rate as well as patient ratio. I am in O-Town (Orlando, Florida ) and the starting rate here for GN's is $19.69. How pathetic!

wow. I feel great that i started at 23.00/ hour plus shift diff.....In central PA! Of course I only have ONE chance to pass boards, and I don't get a raise once i do. But working evenings, and assuming I pass boards, I'll be making 25/hour in my first year, which isn't too bad with an associates degree. I have 4-5 patients who are on non-monitored telemetry; the unit is mostly neuro med-surg. Most infectious diseases come here too. Yuck, but take the precautions, and no big deal. The nurseatient ratio is one of the best, from what i have heard. Mandatory overtime though. But managable.

I'm in central Virginia starting at $20.35 base plus $3-6 differential depending on shift. Sign on bonus is $2000 plus another $2000 at 24 months if you stick around. Patient ratios of 4-7 in a large teaching hospital.

I am in the Texas Panhandle and last year I started as a GN @ $19.50 and hour. The good thing is that I get a review and raise every 6 months, so I have already had a raise and more to come toward the end of the year. I think that it's good pay considering the cost of living here and considering that I make more than some experienced nurses- now that's pathetic! They should pay for experience, but unless you leave and move around, you will never be paid what you are worth...

It's $22.21 as a GN, then shoots up a dollar once you're an RN where I'm working in the Detroit area, pluse night and weedend differentials.
