Hello everyone,

I would like as many responses as possible. I am located in Houston, Texas but looking to working to work anywhere in the US. I am about to get my RN license and I have started looking for a job. What should I expect my salaray or my wage/hr at my first job as a RN with no experience? If people would tell me their personal pay they received at there first job would be helpful. I've researched the web and found just a scattered range of pays. Your responses will be very appreciated. Thanks!

People need to know where you are located as it varies greatly regionally.

Sorry about that. I am new to "allnurses.com". I fixed the thread and put my location. I am from Houston, TX.

I'm in San Antonio, Tx. My wife is a RN (1 year now) and we both work at the same system. Here, RNs are starting around $21.50, a little more if you have experience (2 years clinical, 3 years non-clinical)

That's not even $40K after taxes. Any idea what her pay would be at after 10 years of exp.?

I am in Montana. My first job as an RN, the job I still hold pays $24 an hour. It's in long term care in a less than desirable facility though. The cost of living is quite low here, but we actually do have a bit of a shortage of nurses in the town I live in, so they have to pay higher to have any staff at all.

I just got my first nursing job in southern California, I will start making 32/hr

Are you working in a major hospital? Was that job as an RN or BSN? What is your title now?

Do you plan on going to school or is making $40,00o sufficient enough to you?

I am an ADN and started in Wisconsin as a new grad @ $20.90 base + $2.50 night differential. (Small rural hospital)

Came to GA (with less than one year experience) rate went to $21.90 +3.50 differential and a 4K sign on bonus over two years. (Large urban hospital)

BSN's in both jobs came with $.50 more per hour.

I am not a new nurse but when I graduated from nursing school 20 years ago starting pay was $20.00. I see starting pay has not increase dramatically. Just curious how much did you expect to get paid. $40,000 starting pay out of college is not bad! Nurses often don't get raises every year and when they do it is very little!

Started out as a new grad (diploma RN) in Pittsburgh making $19.50/hr for a major hospital. Got my BSN and got a whopping $0.50 raise, only $1/hr differential for nights

I now work in the DC metro making double that $35-$39/hr plus differentials
