First RN job & it's pay

Hello everyone,

I would like as many responses as possible. I am located in Houston, Texas but looking to working to work anywhere in the US. I am about to get my RN license and I have started looking for a job. What should I expect my salaray or my wage/hr at my first job as a RN with no experience? If people would tell me their personal pay they received at there first job would be helpful. I've researched the web and found just a scattered range of pays. Your responses will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Is that on the dayshift? That's awesome. I only started out at $26.35, but of course I had to do nights (barf) and was making about $33/hr a few years ago as a new grad on nightshift.

I just know that they don't pay us enough haha.

Four years ago, I started out in PICU in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington, TX Metroplex at 26.78 base pay, plus shift differentials for nights and weekends.

New grads in this area have a wide range of pay... anywhere from $19.50 up to about $28.00. Pretty low cost of living, depending on what area of the metroplex you live in.

Nope I was hired for nights :-) Not sure how I will feel about nights but Im staying positive and hoping it will be a great fit

I work in Northern CA and started my first job almost a year ago....pay was just under $42 per hour. With night diff it's about $47 an hour.

When I graduated over 8 years ago in north fl, I made 14.00 then one year later i moved to central florida to a hospital and made 18.00 base with 4.00 in shift diff. Now, i am a nurse supervisor for a clinic in Alaska and am paid a salary.

I LOVE NIGHTS! I was so happy to get a night shift position and love that I get paid extra for a shift I prefer!

Dudette is the 26 base or with shift differential included?

Our Base is 23, 4 p/h for night, 2 p/h with weekend on top of night and then holiday and OT time and a half. That seems to be average all around NoCo and I think is comparable to cost of living here.

It's base. Differential ranges from $2 to $5. I'm glad I'm not the primary breadwinner because I made more money 10 years ago. Crikey.

How is cost of living in your area? Working full time on my base pay would be pretty hard to take care of me and the kids alone, we would have to live pretty dang frugal. But as a second income it will be good. My husbands business has slowed down a lot the past few months so my income could not have come at a better time. Now I get to tease him that "someone has to work around here" lol

How is cost of living in your area?

"Highest combined sales tax rate in the US" pretty much covers it. :lol2:

If I buy groceries in the city, taxes are 9.75% on non-WIC items. State income tax rate increased from 3% to 5% this year. Property taxes went up almost $1000 per year (after my appeal was approved!). Every utility bill has a special "Chicago tax" on it.

Good god, we should move. ;)
