First job rejection

So I'm a new RN grad and I've been on the search for my first job. I got offered a job but the drive is 100 miles round trip. It's great money but its alot of driving. The Hospital has already ran my background check and verified me so I feel horrible about turning it down but I really need to work closer to home. By rejecting this job will I **** off the hospital?? The hospital also owns another hospital about 15 miles from my house and I'm hopeful something else will open there soon. If it does and they want to hire me I already have had a background screen so I'd be ready to go... Any advice/suggestions...

My question would be: If the commute was not acceptable, why did you apply?

I would work at that farther job until a job at the closer one opens up. Many nurses drive hours to and from work, because that's the only work avail. It will look poorly if you decline the job then reapply at the closer hosp-or at least it could. I would bite the bullet and work until you find something else.

I also know nurses who work their days all in a row and stay in a hotel then drive back home after work. Or they stay at the hosp housing that they have for out of town residents or MDs.

Honestly I didn't realize how far it would be until I clicked the mileage and I found out after I applied that my dad would be babysitting and he lives a bit far from me

I have small babies so I must be home with them.

well you have to do what you have to do. I worked 1.5 hours each way with 4 little kids at home. each person determines for themselves what they will tolerate. but in this economy it seems that having a job isn't a sure thing.

Not 6 months its 1 year!! They do have a facility about 16 miles from my house.

1 year not 6 months. They have another hospital nearby but I couldn't make that long haul 1 year. I'm hoping the facility by me posts jobs soon. One of the other local hospitals by me is on a roll now since its Jan.

I understand your dilemma. If that job is one with 12 hours shifts, the added commute could create a very dangerous situation d/t fatigue & sleep deprivation. Especially problematic if it was on nights and you're not used to it.

It's 12 hr shifts and nights. 100 miles per work day.
