Don't know if this will help anyone, but . . .

Tomorrow will make is 1 year from my hire date (graduated Aug '08). I haven't been licensed for a year quite yet (that'll be at the beginning of Oct) and I haven't been on my own for a year yet (that'll be Jan), but I have survived 1 year in the ICU. It's been hard and it still is. I am actually hoping to get away from bedside and back into research (pre-nursing previous degree, I was a research assistant) using my nursing background.

I just thought I would share the simple fact that somehow, someway I am still standing. And if I can manage it, I am sure anyone can!

Haven't finished orientation yet, 12 weeks total it will be up 2nd week of Nov...I am SO scared to be on my own. Always what if, I don't know what to do when by myself...?
Just worried.

Took boards and passed Sept 15th, now everyone thinks you are smarter

I would like to. Even before I went into nursing, I want wanted to get a PhD. Right now I am trying to learn more about research nursing and keeping an eye open for positions in my area.

Hey, its perfectly normal to be scared about being on your own. Sometimes it feels like you've been thrown in the deep end. Just use your orientation time to its fullest! I hope your preceptor is supportive and a good teacher. A good orientation will help you get a good start. The most important thing about being on your own (and while you are being orientated) is ASK, ASK, ASK if you don't know/are unsure. You'll eventually figure out the best people to ask about certain things, but always ASK QUESTIONS. It's better/safer for you and your patients. And if anybody gives you lip about asking too many questions, well then they are not keeping the best interest of you and your patient in mind. The learning never ends! Good Luck.

And btw, Congrats on passing boards! That's an accomplishment in and of itself!
