Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi All:

My name is Jim and I too am a new RN. I am a 39 male who knew that my previous career in insurance wasn't fulfilling enough. I have been a firefighter/EMT for many years and realised my heart was really into caring for people. My sister is an AMAZING nurse and she and a former girlfriend were terrific inspirations for me to go into nursing.

I have a BS degree in business so I only pursued the AAS in nursing. Once I get a little more comfortable in the Emergency Dept I will pursue the 6 - 7 courses I need to complete the BSN requirements. My hope is to stay ambitious enough to go for the MSN.

I am currently working for a North Jersey Hospital which is also a regional trauma center. I am in a preceptor program for new nurses in specialty areas (ED). I love what I do but I gotta say, although I sailed through school and NCLEX ... I often feel like I know nothing when it comes to applying all I learned to real live people. Do you all feel that way too?

Anyway, I look forward to actively participating with everyone and if anyone has any questions or if there is any way I can help out or contribute ... let me know.

Jimbo
