Can't believe I'm so scared

I've had 6 mo experience as a med-surg nurse.

I just had 2 mo. off.

I've been sick-sick-sick. And still not 100% well, but my new job starts tomorrow.

It's in a brand new (just opened Monday) hospital.

I'm excited BUT I'm still a new nurse and after 2 mo off I feel like I've forgotten everything!

I feel all nervous just like I was brand new.

Hope it all comes back to me.

Is it normal to feel so insecure?

I've never been big in the confidence dept. and now I wonder why I chose nursing.

Maybe some of the more experienced can tell me...how should I ask for help without coming off like a complete imbicile? :imbar Nurscee

I'm sure it will all come back to you once you get in "nurse mode" again. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If the hospital is brand new and just opening, I'm sure everyone will be asking alot of questions. Hopefully it will not be full of patients right away and you will have time to get your feet wet again. Congratulations and Best Wishes!

There are all kind of nurses, all of us are not totally confident. Every time I am in a new job I feel insecure for a while. Thats normal. Just relax a bit and remember that everyone has been new at some point. Do not worry what others think of you when you asking for help.

If I work with somebody new and they never ask for help, I worry.

You will be all right.

It's as simple as saying, "I'd appreciate it if you would allow me to watch this one time, next time I'd like you to direct me through it" Just letting them know, I am still new and have alot of learning to do will help. "MOST" nurses will willingly be the 'instructor' because it allows them to show what they know ;)

I can relate. On monday I start a new job after 1 year off. I have 5 months experience in the work force. I have spent the time doing CEU's and have racked up many. The reason I left was do to stress, and no help for guidance from the more experienced staff. I am also scared, but with a little review, realise that it will come back. You will do fine, and so will I. Blessings to us both. :)

I hope that doesn't come back to bite me. I put them down as a previous job worked. I only worked there 3 months and missed 3 days due to developing an ulcer. I hope that doesn't affect me getting another job! I've already had 2 interviews (one of which I really hope I get!)
