Book suggestions

Hey all - I would love for people to suggest some books for first year of nursing. Please suggest because you read the book and enjoyed it. I graduated in May, live in a small town and was offered a job in a moderate size hospital on a Ortho/Neuro floor. Any suggestions would be awesome. I usually get most of my books from Amazon.

Any more? I'd love a long list. I have how to survive nursing school (already graduated) First year of nursing. Thats about it. Keep the lists coming. I'm going to buy stock in amazon. Any suggestions on anxiety books would be also appreciated!

Hope you still have your nursing textbooks because you will need them. I always have a pathophysiology nursing book at home for reference. They are huge, have lots of pages and if you can pick them up with one hand they are good for squashing bugs (just kidding!). If you have a care plan book I'd put my nose into that too. You'll be wanting to read up on neuro and ortho nursing for now. My second hospital RN job was on a neuro unit. You will be seeing all kind of different seizures and be caring for people with head injuries. Bone up on neuro assessments. You will probably have people who are in for observation that will have concussions--very interesting group of patients to assess. If you had a course in physical assessment I would go through the section on neuro assessments. You may feel you learned this stuff in school, but you are going to have lots of patients now to reinforce what you only read about before.

Daytonite - Thank you so much. Your insight was more than I could've asked for. I do have my patho/phys books still and I have several care plans over different types of neuro disorders (most of the patient on this unit about 3/4 are ortho patients) and ortho disorders.

I can't believe how blinded I was to overlook the obvious! Again. Thanks - and any other suggestions keep them comings.
