I work in a large hospital and feel very lost and out of control. I feel I have no time to see my family or husband. I work 36/hrs a week and I just started. I have been an LPN for 15yrs working as an outpaitient triage nurse and gave a 9-5 job up to gain experience in a hospital setting. MGH to be exact. I am on a medical floor that is crazy buzy. I am unable to get the schedule I would like for example 3 12/hr shifts rotating day and night. Instead I get one maybe two 12/hr shifts with some 8/hrs inbetween and alt with nights in one week. Dose this sound crazy or is it me and I am new and should shut up. My intrest is to try and transfer to MICU in the near futrue. I am not sure how long I should wait and do you need some sort of exp behind your belt. I am feeling like nursing is not for me or maybe I should just do long term care even though thats not where my heart is. Any advise?

I dont understand the fluctuation of schedule unless you are a float, per-diem or part-time employee.
But if you are considered a full-time employee(even float) I would think they would be able to give you a reasonable schedule that could be followed as rotational at least on a monthly basis.
