A month until starting my job

Nurses New Nurse

Hello all!

I just found out I passed my NCLEX yesterday. I opted to start my job January 8 instead of today (Dec 11). I am sitting here at a loss. For the first time in 3.5 years, since I started nursing school, I don't have a deadline or dread of the NCLEX looming over my head. I just don't know what to do with myself:uhoh21: .

What would you do with a month off? I know I could be cleaning or organzing but I am sure that will come later, LOL.

What to do????

Why not try to set a post record on allnurses!

You can try to get to 1000 post by the end of the year! THAT should keep you very busy! :lol2:

I don't have that much to say ... I have been here 2.5 years and am only up to 605 posts, I guess I need to get back to the drawing board.:monkeydance:

Why not take up a new hobby? You could use the time to learn something fun to do that would be a good stress-reliever for when you new job gets stressful. Learning it will be fun. ... You'll enrich your life by developing new interests. ... and ... You'll be developing positive coping mechanisms for the future.

Or pick up an old hobby that you let slide by wayside while you were in school.

Congratulations on passing your NCLEX. My suggestion: just relax and take it easy...enjoy yourself.

Cheers

I would enjoy the holidays, catch up on reading, and rest up because those 12 hour shifts will come too soon. Actually, I like working 3 days a week because I have a lot of hobbies that need time also.

Specializes in geriatric, hospice, med/surg.

CONGRATULATIONS! :nurse: If that cute little boxer dog in your avatar is your pet, I'd say be sure and include him/her in daily romping dog games and fun! I lost my beloved dog this past July and still miss her each and every day. Had her for ten years...she was my furry daughter!

Anyway. Much congrats on achieving your goal. Above posts would be what I'd advice, too. Hobbies, reading, just chillin' before starting a very demanding, yet ultimately, satisfying nurse job....

No, the cute avatar isn't my dog, but I almost bought a boxer puppy the other day. At the last minute common sense intervened and said, "now when are you going to have time to give this puppy what it needs, you are starting a new job and it is winter." I heeded that voice, and am going to wait until the springtime to get a boxer. Friends of ours have 2 boxers who sometimes have puppies so I am going to ask them for dibs on a female on their next litter.

I went and bought a new craft and a new book. My book is excellent and I haven't been able to put it down long enough to start my craft.

Same as me! Im in Australia, I register on Wednesday, and i start my job (my dream job, but we'll see how it actually goes) on Jan 8th!!!!

We will have to compare!

Im still working as an undergrad in 2 jobs though, one of which i am a senior staff member, so quite busy. Looking forward to my first Christmas day off in 3 years (and was workign retail before then - so enjoying not being on a register during December!).

Its so weird not having to study, isnt it, i picked up a book to read and just cant get absorbed in it yet. Im enjoying dvds, cooking, and cuddling my brilliant partner.

Hope it goes well, good luck for jan 8th and have a good christmas!!!!

I worked retail for many years, I quit about 18 months ago it was too tought with school.

I found that after a few days of decompressing and realizing that it was really all over I was able to relax. I picked up a really good book. Finding the right book was what it took to get me reading again. I have even ventured into cleaning and decluttering.

Best of luck to you on January 8 too! What is your dream job?

My God, with a month off you could do so much!

Book one of those cheap online last minute vacation trips down south! or jump into your car and take a roadtrip somewhere crazy. Vegas maybe? Learn to ski/snowboard in the rockies? kayaking in baja? sunning on the beach in the Domincan, cruise to the bahamas!

You're finally done school, done exams, and will be making a regular paycheck.....SPLURGE! Take a short, cheap, last minute trip somewhere.......when's the next time you're going to have a month off to do something crazy!
