I am looking for the best acoustics: best clarity of sounds, and most audible/loudest sound. Also, should mention that I need it to pick up heart, lungs, bowel sounds etc. But, I think all of these do that.

I think I am going to go broke buying Stehoscopes. On my last clinical rotation, I had to care for someone who was on a contact precaution. It was mandatory to don PPE before I stepped into the room and my instructor guided me on the protocol ie: take off the gown and gloves at the door before I stepped out of the room. My instructors doesn't allow us to use the electronic equipment to take V/S. I had to take the persons BP with the manual cuff and used my stethoscope. I wanted to throw up because the pt was in bad shape. I felt that I contaminated my stehoscope, not only with the diaphragm touching the pt skin but by me touching the tubing and the ear pieces while performing the procedure. Awk, at the end of the day I just threw the stethoscope away.

Hey Everyone,
I know this is prob a silly question, but is there a difference in qualiity when it comes to a $5.99 stethoscope and a $200.00 one? If so, what are the differences? My friend insists that there's no difference, but i kind of find that hard to believe. Also, is it silly to buy a pink stethoscope for nursing school? They're so pretty....:D
Thankie!

Hi!

I got given a promotional stethoscope (for a drug called Clexane) for a nursing course I am going to do next year. I was just wondering; would it be okay if I just used that one, or should I use the one that I got earlier on (I'm not sure what brand it is!)?

Which stethoscope is the best for nursing? I currently have a Littmann lightweight 2 and it is light but i can hear a lot of outer noises which is pretty distracting. I have tried the ADC double lumen style and they are nice but bulkier and heavier. I've heard that prestige is good, littmann classic, or littmann cardiology (kind of pricey though)? What do you use and prefer?

I will be graduating in the spring from nursing school and would like to work in Labor and Delivery, or possibly NICU. I am in the market for a new stethoscope and am confused with all the options available. I don't want to spend more than $200, and my current stethoscope is horrible, so anything would be an improvement. Any ideas on what my better options would be? Thanks for your assistance in advanced!
