Help, failed out of a nursing program last week

Hi everyone. I just received my final grades for my first semester of my BSN program Sunday. I failed one class by 4 points, one by 10 points, and the other by 15. During this semester I developed severe test anxiety and by the week of my second exams in all my classes I was a mess. Heart rate above 115 before an exam, tears and all. My instructors suggested I go to the student help center, but they wanted 300.00 to tell me I had a problem and to maybe get the opportunity to take my exams in a separate building with 30 extra minutes. I wish I would have charged that to any credit card I have, but I thought I could pull through. Of course our finals were 30% of our grade and I came up short. I have finally found a doctor in town who will prescribe me a beta blocker, and have gone to see the student services again. I said all that to say my program has a policy if you fail two you're kicked out. I have an appointment with the director Thursday which I think is required to basically say you're kicked out. I have called, emailed, visited every college within two hours of here and every single program will NOT even allow me to apply because of the D's in my nursing courses. This is what I want, this is what I was meant to do. I am 27 and my husband and I are depending on this. Can my dream really be over because of test anxiety?! Help.

**Really, really surprised to have read what I have through older threads about this issue.

I've read any published study/research online I can find about the BSN/AN-RN issue; searched through info at the library, read biographies, periodical journals and anecdotally discussed/interviewed nurses with both degrees, from differing grad periods.

While I read that the economy has the most to do with the supposed 'shortage' not really showing up currently; and I do hear info repeated about 'magnet' hospital status preferring BSN's and I understand the value in the other coursework BSN graduates are exposed to -- it seems odd that working nurses do not see the organizational reach for more and more profits against their own individual employed value. Maybe this is a thought which is more often discussed among the nursing force who are part of unions in various individual states. And since those are few and far between thus far, the media and the general percentage of professional nurses who participate in public discourse bring it up less often? Of course many, many professions and industry fields continue to reach for quality through entry and employee progression via educational requisites. That is not new, economic depression or not.

However-- nary a post I've found so far has mentioned that corporate health organization/facility owners might very well be quite excited to have an abundant BSN hiring pool, because of the increase in revenue that represents to the corporations' bottom line.

If in any given time period, you hire more BSN grads, you will have only those who are continuing studies for their MSN's and or higher terminal degrees working for your facility. If you hire a mix or even more AN RN's then you would be faced with more nurses hired who would seek employee-assisted financing for and or work/schedule challenges as many of their rank work toward the BSN, then the MSN and further educational goals.

And if in the mix you can use PR to scramble the media, and the professional RN community to focus on ancillary topics which increases infighting; well, it gives ya lots more operating room to keep doing what you are doing that is making the corporation more money instead of the nurses eh.

*Shakes head and muses.

I am a new student who is interested in the lone star college nursing program. I see the general requirements to get in but I noticed others had completed far more classes than were required for entry into the program. Can anyone tell me what I really need to get into the program? Also I noticed that there is an entrance exam, is there a studyguide for that? I'm a little overwhelmed and I wanted to make sure I had the best chance of getting in. Thank you!!

I've been a floor nurse for 1.5 years graduated with my ADN and currently working on my BSN which should be completed within a year and a half. Several times I've considered stopping the BSN track and jumping back into getting my BS in Biology as I only need a couple upper division credits.

The truth is for me personally, and I mean this as non-pretentiously as I can, floor nursing bores me and I don't find it intellectually challenging at all which is my main desire to change my bachelors to another discipline. I find the whole aspect of getting report, doing a quick assessment (as I'm always pushed for time) and giving meds all day to be tedious and for the most part to be brain dead work. I have only exposure to telemetry and several months of ER time however.

I suppose what I really am asking for is advice; is there a place for something clinically science oriented or research oriented in nursing for me? I would like to sbe there on the cusp of biomedical research or therapies but I also do enjoy patient interaction.

Any advice?

Hello there;
I have an over-the-phone interview with a recruiter from a Psych unit in upstate NY, and I'd like to get some tips on how a typical psych (new) nurse interview would be. I'm soo excited and nervous at the same time.
PS. I also have a BS in Clinical Psych, do you guys think that this will boost my chances of getting this job?
Thanks in advance.

So an idea I have been pondering for a while is this... (I'm a junior in high school btw.)
I go to my local community college and get my ADN then work at a local hospital over the summer. Then the next semester apply for a RN-BSN program. Go to school for my BSN while working, saving money, and gaining experience. I'm not 100% sure if I want to be a nurse- so would it be better to get my ADN so I know if its something I would like to continue?

I want to do this because I want to go to a university in my town that is very inexpensive but only offers a RN-BSN option.

I eventually want to get my DNP so I can be a NP (if I want to continue with nursing)
(Oh and I don't want to be a CNA or a LPN).

Are there any flaws to this? Any advice? Is this good in terms of cost?
