Hello-

I am currently finishing up some pre-req's at a CT community college and I already have a BA in Communications from Univesity of Conneticut. However, I've changed my career path and am pursuing an AD in nursing. My plan has been to apply for Fall 2010 to a CT community college for nursing, but recently I have become homesick for my family who just moved to Wilson, NC two years ago. I'm planning on applying to the Wilson CC ADN program, but I'm wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on the school? Is a reputable program? Do students seem to get the appropriate experience and exposure through the clinical hours? Is the curriculum helpful in preparing a nurse take the NCLEX after graduation, etc? Any information AT ALLL would be super helpful in making my decision to attend there if I get in.

what are your thoughts on an accelerated nursing program? are they considered just as good to the job market to become a nurse through an accelerated nursing program vs a bachelor or associate degree program? My husband currently has his bachelor degree in criminal justice and is going to go back to school through the accelerated nursing program for his RN. Does he have a good chance of getting a job once he's finished? Could it help that he would be a male nurse too( I noticed male nursing jobs are quite needed and popular) help me out...what are your thought? Thanks!

Any other Australian nurses out there study at graduate level in US?

I am frustrated. I have a hard earned Bachelor of Nursing degree that has been demoted to diploma level here in US, owing to the fact that we have 3 year degrees, not 4 year degrees (our system is like the European one.) I really want to go to grad school to become a Nurse Practitioner. I am really irritated that I might need to do two semesters of english lit and history before proceeding to graduate level study!!!

Any other foreign trained RNs out there have experience with getting into grad school here?

Hello,

I am working on an ASN right now and already have a BA (and masters) in theology & history. Does anyone know how long it would take to do an RN-to-BSN program for someone who already has a BA? I do not want to do an online degree like University of Phoenix, etc. Are there any programs specifically for BA,RN-to-BSN?

Thanks!!!

Hi everyone!

I will be graduating in May with a BS in health studies and I plan on starting my nursing education immediately after. Lately I've been coming across hospital based RN diploma programs and Ive started to wonder whats the difference between those and degree granting RN programs. Ive been leaning toward the hospital based programs mostly because they all seem to have the loan forgiveness if you work at their hospital.

But given that I will be having a BS soon, would it be better for me to just get a degree in nursing opposed to a diploma or does it matter? In my situation what would you do and why? thanks!

Hello everyone,

I earned a Bio degree with a low gpa of 2.6 :imbar, about 10 yrs ago (took too many difficult courses at once, 22 credit semester course load yadda yadda)....Anyway, I'd like to apply to a Second Degree BSN program preferably in NYC. Is there anyone out there that has had any luck getting into a Second Degree BSN program in NYC or elsewhere, with my same predicament?

I'm currently completing my pre req requirements.

Any info on your personal experiences would really help.

Thanks :specs:

Hey all, this is my first post here so bear with me. I'm a new college graduate currently enrolled...

Hey all, this is my first post here so bear with me. I'm a new college graduate currently enrolled in an AmeriCorps program and looking at what to do after I get out. I've always been interested in public service positions, and after some years of toying with the idea of becoming a police officer, fireman, etc. my mom suggested nursing to me. She's an ICU nurse at a local hospital with 20+ years of experience under her belt.

Now, I've been looking around at different opportunities for nursing education and I have some questions. I graduated college with a BA in English, so I have little to no science or mathematics courses. Plus, I have a learning disability in math, and while I'm not a stranger to hard work I do worry about not being able to be effective in class or on the job. My mom says that once you're on the job much of the formulas are taken care of for you, but I bet instructors still want you to know the nuts-and-bolts of theory.

I've looked at accelerated BSN programs, and I am interested in them but I don't have many of the prerequisites and hesitant about my math and science skills. Do people think that a potential employer would look well upon a BA and an Associates in Nursing? To be honest, at the moment I'm leaning more towards an Associates because I'm wondering whether or not a second Bachelors would be little more than a lateral move for me.

Any comments, questions, suggestions, etc. would be very welcome, both in regards to my questions about education and about my fears about math and science. I'm interested in the more emergent side of nursing--ER, flight nurse, etc.--if that would help anyone with their comments.
