I just got a new Blackberry Phone and I've heard that you can actually download the latest version of drug reference books online onto the phone, but I have no idea how to do it, or what websites to go to for assistance. Because I'm at the tail-end of the semester, I don't have much time to research this. Can anyone offer me some assistance with this?
Thanks!

Hey,

I recently bought an ipod touch and am looking to purchase a nursing application. I know that some colleges supply discount codes to the nursing students to purchase applications like Skyscape and Unbound Medicine products.

I was wondering if anyone has a discount code from their school for any nursing applications?
I am particularly interested in Nursing Central from Unbound Medicine.

If anyone knows any discount codes I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I have always had the basic flip phone, and now that I am starting nursing school people have impressed upon me the need for a smart phone--in fact even the faculty recommend it. The thing is===I don't really understand all the mumbo jumbo enough to get a phone that I really need. The phones they recommended at orientation (i-Phone) are not carried by Verizon. The phone that I want the most is the Touch Pro 2, but I want to make sure I get the apps that are beneficial to student nurses. Does anyone know if this phone is sufficient, or can recommend Verizon phones which would be beneficial?

I have had my Ipod Touch now for a week. I've been able to use it during my clinical rotation and have been quite happy! Maybe more :loveya: than happy really :yeah:.....I can't believe that I survived my surgical rotation without this handy-dandy gizmo in my hand. It has made my life so much easier and have used it in studying for Pharmacology....the cross-referencing of Unbound Medicine's Nursing Central has allowed me to really get into the subject matter, thereby affording me much understanding than what I would have gotten if I laid down all my books in front of me. In the past, I would note down terms or whatever it was in the hopes that I would look it up. Suffice it to say, that 9 out of 10, I would always forget  or be too lazy to do so.

So anyways, to get on to how I set up my iTouch - Just so you know, I am in no way a "high tech" person. The allure of the iTouch came only because of the input of the other posters here. Anyway, I was able to set it all up by myself within a span of a few hours. When I opened the box, the set-up instructions were easy to follow. I proceeded to iTunes where I tried to find the necessary apps for nursing e.g. MedCalc, Epocrates, Lexi-Comp, Eponyms, and Unbound Medicine apps. After downloading it I bought Unbound Medicine's Nursing Central for $143 (thanks to the 10% discount banner here at allnurses, original pricing was at $159.95). The other apps that I mentioned are FREE apps from iTunes.

I also downloaded a couple of FREE (so I still am cheap:lol2:, there are still tuition fees to pay for) miscellaneous nursing games/apps/videos e.g. Research Channel, Bones Lite, Drug Suffixes, Psych Drugs, Stanza for my entertainment. I uploaded 8 CDs worth of music, since I plan to just rotate my music when I sync my iTouch. At the end of this process, my 8GB still had 6GB free!!!! woo hoo.....My iTouch is also synched with my computer for mail, schedules, etc.

Another site that gives reviews on nursing & the iTouch or iPhone is (www.gostudentnurse.com)

In conclusion, IMHO, the iTouch is a gizmo that nursing students should consider when they go into their clinical rotations. The drug reference books left at the nursing station doesn't really help anyone except the dust bunnies. But the convenience of pulling info while on the floor, to me is....priceless!

Since the Motorola Droid is so new the staff at the Verizon store is unable to answer my question and doesn't know where to find the answer. I thought I would try to ask here and get an educated guess. Do you think after looking at the phones specs that their would be any problems with downloading drug guides into this phone. I don't want to buy it if I can't. I figure if my stupid Blackberry could handle it this phone should be able to. What do you think?

Hey you guys I recently purchased an ipod touch 8gb device and I've had it for a month now and really like it. I have downloaded music and apps on it, but have yet to get on the internet with it. I have a wireless router but every time I go and stick the password in it doesn't allow me to get in. Is anybody else having this kind of trouble with it or is it just me? Do any of you know how to fix this? If you do when it comes to computers I'm not high tech and don't know too much about fixing them. The only thing I know how to do is either do system restore or wipe the whole computer out by sticking the disc in it to make everything new again. That being said if you know how to fix this please give very specific instructions on where to go in my computer or ipod to do stuff. Your help would be very much appreciated.

Taking notes with itouch/iPhone?

Can anyone please help me out with two major questions about the iTouch/iphone for use as a student...

Can anyone please help me out with two major questions about the iTouch/iphone for use as a student aide?
After reading the numerous posts favoring the iTouch, I just purchased a 16GB 2nd generation.
Now I remember I read somewhere that with the help of a "stylus pen" and an app you can take notes in class and save them as documents. Did I read right? Does this option exist? I would love to be able to jot down some notes by hand instead of typing them.
The second thing is what is the best app(apps) for organizing your life? Calendar, birthday reminders, ability to sync with PC...... As of now I am still using the old fashioned paper planner. I want to start inputing all my data on my PC so that I can sync with the iTouch once I receive it sometime in the next week or so. I have Windows XP Pro with Outlook 2003 (which I think would be convenient) on my PC and Vista 64bit with Internet Explorer 7 (no Outlook as far as I know) on my laptop. I heard someone talk about Windows Live, or something like that for Vista. What do you guys suggest?
Thank you in advance for all and any suggestions. I am just starting on this iTouch adventure and I figured I should ask the "veterans".

Handheld electronic device for nursing student

Hi Everyone,

Hi Everyone,

My gf is a nursing student and I see her constantly looking up stuff in PDR, textbooks, and the internet. I would really like to buy her something to help her out in nursing school and also in clinicals that is very easy and fast to use. I know that for language translation, there are usually small electronic handheld devices where you can easily search for a word or phrase.

What would be an equivalent for nurses? I have heard that there are iPhone, Palm, or Blackberry apps, but I know that my gf does not want to upgrade her phone. Are there any other tools that could help her be the most successful she can be? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I feel so bad for because she is trying so hard, going to class every day and studying so hard every day and night, but it seems like the school she is going to does not give sufficient support or guidance for the students to succeed. For example, instead of saying, "This is how to best prepare for an exam, or here are some old exams that you could study with (these are the types of quesitons you will receive)," it's more like "Here are a million things the exam COULD cover over 200 pages, 100 powerpoint slides, and 15 lectures, and you just have to memorize it all." Imagine studying for 50 hours for an exam, only to find out that 85% of what you studied was not on the exam. I just figure if a student is willing to put in all the time and energy necessary to study and learn, the least the instructors could do is to give better guidance, or give all the tools the students need to succeed. Otherwise, students will just get de-motivated and feel like all their effort is for naught.

So I'm a pre-nursing student and honestly, I'm wondering if anyone had some amazing time management apps for iTouch? I'm looking for something that's a 24-hour-day, seven days a week, and allows me to put in what I'm doing or each half-hour/hour. I've seen some other "calenders" and really am not fond of the idea of me spending weeks (or years) trying to schedule everything out of midair. Does anyone have any suggestions? Even websites would be loved! :yeah:
