Hi everyone,

I'm currently in my first year of Nursing school for my BSN. I would like to get my Master's after getting actual RN experience (I'm planning to apply for grad school 2-3 years after working as an RN). Anesthesia is something that's always interested me in terms of how it physiologically affects our body. How would I know if CRNA is right for me though? I live in the Bay Area.. and for those of you who live in the area, do you know any type of volunteer work (while attending nursing school) that I can do to learn more about the field? Which department is best to learn more about the CRNA field? What about volunteer work that will expose me in the ICU?

Thanks for any help!

hello, I am open to any advice you have to give me- good or bad. I can accept it. I have been an RN, BSN for 3 years now. I worked for 2 1/2 years on a cardiac telemetry floor, and this past January I started working in the OR. I absolutely love the OR. I've got to see what exactly a CRNA does and have acquired quite an interest for it. I looked into CRNA schools- I know I need ICU experience, which I'm in the process of leaving the OR now and obtaining an ICU job preferably in a coronary care unit or cardiothoracic unit being I have the cardiac experience. My question is: my overall undergrad GPA is a 2.22. I struggled my first two years of undergrad because I actually had to teach myself the correct way to study the material. I did improve my gpa over the last two years of undergrad. Is my gpa too low to be considered for CRNA school? On the otherhand, my references can without a doubt support me-every employer has told me I am an asset to their organization. I'm hard working, I crave knowledge and always continue to learn more.
Do I have a good chance of getting into CRNA school even though my gpa is low? Can anyone give me a step in the right direction. I know I need ICU experience, I am ACLS and BLS certified, I do need PALS. Bottom line, is the interview with the anesthesia school key? Is sticking with a cardiac ICU a good choice due to the fact that I already have the cardiac background? What are some good ways for me to become more well-rounded? I've read on forums that it is really good to have an article published and belong to as many organizations as I can (e.g. ANA, CCRN etc) help me out, am I off to a good start so far?

I am currently a 20 y.o. RN working in an SICU in SC. It has been my dream to become a CRNA since I was 15. I am currently working on my prereqs for my BSN and will be applying to USC Upstate's online RN to BSN program for fall of next year. I am also working on getting as many letters around my name as possible (CCRN, CMC, TNCC, etc...). I am trying to show initiative by also advancing my way through my hospital's clinical ladder program and currently hold an officer position in the local AACN chapter. But with all the news about the DNP stuff starting in 2015 it has me discouraged. That's around 23 more credit hours added on to the already 28 month program. Is all this stuff I'm doing going to pay off? Will it be worth it in the end? I would greatly appreciate anyones incite and advice. Thanks.

Ok guys, I've been a stalker for a year and now I need some advice from people who know. So a pretty simple dilemma I guess.

I have been accepted into a BSN program at a local university and an ADN program at a local community college. The ultimate goal is CRNA school. On one hand ADN will be much cheaper, allow me to work and have my BSN paid for and I will have more experience at application since I will have to spend three semesters completing my BSN. And of course I can save money to live on when CRNA ever starts. On the other hand, at the University I can graduate and just focus on work until time for CCRN and application but I will have less experience and not as much money saved up. Both paths get me into CRNA school at the same time, but one path affords me more experience, saved money, and the possibility of having RN-BSN mostly paid for reducing loan debt. I think I may have just answered my own question, but both schools always say that they have the best plan. The only concern is that my BSN work during my first year in an ICU may be a little overwhelming. I'll just think of it as a permanent clinical with a stipend :) Oh yea, I will be doing my RN-BSN through Murray State and hopefully my CRNA training will come from there as well. Anybody have anything good or bad to say about Murray's programs?

Hello,

I decided about 4 years ago to become a nurse. So, I took the necessary pre-requisites and applied to nursing schools. After gaining admission to an accelerated program, I set out to get an internship while in school. Luckily, I got the internship....with the intention of leveraging this internship into an opportunity to work in the ICU upon gradaution. And it worked! I am now working in MICU/SICU. Orientation was brutal but I survived it. So, I am now trying to build relationships in order to put together a solid application package for CRNA school. However, I am having difficulty building relationships and have not had a chance to meet any CRNA's at my hospital. So, how do I find a CRNA to shadow?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I am currently an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps interested in pursuing nurse anesthesia, either military and civilian (really whichever one lets me in).

I read that many nurse anesthesia schools require a college level biochemistry course (specifically the Navy program at USUHS). Does anyone have any idea where I can take a good biochem course online? Will TA pay for it?

Anybody go the military anesthesia route and what were your experiences?

Need Advice (new program) Clarkson College CRNA - Fall 2010

Long story made short: I am graduate of Clarkson College's BSN program, class of 2007. I graduated...

Long story made short: I am graduate of Clarkson College's BSN program, class of 2007. I graduated Summa Cum Laude, and all the pre-reqs done except for a graduate level stats class, which I can take there this spring. I was somewhat of a "flounder" student before nursing school, so over the past year or so, I've retaken classes such as chem and bio to boost my GPA in those areas. My overall GPA is greater than 3.5, with a nursing class GPA greater than 3.9. I've been working in a CVICU for almost two years, and I'm scheduled to take the CCRN exam in December.

While Clarkson College has been around for over a hundred years, this is a brand new program they are offering, and they are currently seeking accreditation. They are now accepting applications. I am currently in the process of applying to this program, and I will also apply to other CRNA programs next fall.

What does everyone think about applying to a program which is seeking accreditation? I'd like some advice in case I am accepted. Do you think this is a good idea? The application fee is minimal since I work for an affiliated hospital. My cost of obtaining and sending the rest of my transcripts to them is less than $10. I'm going to take the graduate level stats class even if I am not admitted into this program (my tuition is half price at Clarkson due to where I work).

If I am accepted, the locale of this school would be preferable and beneficial (due to living arrangements and being single). Clarkson says they will not completely accept applicants until their accreditation status is confirmed. How exactly does this process work, and is it wise to go into a program which is newly accredited?

Information about this program is here: http://www.clarksoncollege.edu/Progr...se_Anesthesia/

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I am applying to an MSN program and need to find an online statistics course. I plan on getting a doctorate as well, so don't mind doing a more advanced course that would cover the stats reqs for both. Anyone have any suggestions? I have posted the question to the student CRNA forum as well, and am looking forward to hearing if anyone has had good experience with a particular course.
Thanks so much for your help - all suggestions most welcome!
However this conditional acceptance is contingent upon my completing an Organic Chemistry prior to 31 March 2010. They recommended that I take the chem class from the University of New England (On-Line). I have registered and I am about to start. Has anyone taken this course on-line and if so what should I expect? Is there anywhere else that I could take it? Any info would be GREATLY APPRECIATED....thank you so much.......:crying2::crying2::crying2:

HI there:

I will be having two interviews 18 and 19 of November, Lourdes and Georgetown, I would like to hear from you guys, how was this experience, type of set up, panel or one to one?

Clinical questions?

Lady of Lourdes will put an exam of Basic Science, I asked to the program today, they said nothing to study for, what that means?

I am not US native, so basic science for me, means anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry etc, confused if they call Basic science to ICU content!

I would like to hear as well from Georgetown applicants, guys for me it has been a long way to get to this point, I am excited, scare and appreciative of anything you could provide to make myself more prepare for the big day.

Thanks a lot, good luck to everyone!
