I heard through a friend that if you are in the full time program, that there is a form you can fill out at financial aid so that you are deemed a full-time student even though the program is only 8 credits first semester. However, financial aid says that they've never heard of anything like this. Anyone know anything about this? What is the form called? I really don't want to have to pick up a 4 credit class to add to next semester!!!

Best place to work Psych in Vegas?

I am currently in the midst of a specialty change in nursing. I have been working corrections for about 5 years and want to now work psych. I am looking for input into the best place to work psych. I am looking for 12 hour shifts, pay comparable and an organized facility. But, I'll take the 12 hour shifts over the rest. I appreciate any input and please don't mention Spring Mountain TX as I worked there already and pay is very low. I have been working at Rawson -Neal and the place just has 8 hour shifts and is IMO in dire straits due to no DON and no medical director. I was thinking Montevista. Thanks.

A little suggestion for Vegas new-grads seeking jobs

Not so long ago I was a Vegas new-grad desperate for a job, so I thought maybe this might help a couple of you.

Try some of the local hospices in town (Nathan Adelson, Solari, Odyssey, etc) as they tend to be more new-grad friendly than the hospitals. For a new-grad in this economy, applying online is really not enough. You've got to pick up the phone and call human resources. Speak to someone and specifically ask what they've got and if you can interview with a nurse manager. Sometimes they will tell you over the phone that they don't have anything available, but it's worth a try to ask if you can set up a meeting/interview with the manager anyway. You'd be surprised, sometimes if the manager likes you they might suddenly decide to try you for a position they hadn't considered you for. Use your senior-year externship to sell yourself as far as experience goes, but try not to come across as a know-it-all. Emphasize that you understand that you have a lot to learn and try to show how much respect you have for the expertise of more experienced nurses. Seasoned nurses eat that stuff right up, LOL. And remember, attitude, attitude, attitude counts for more than you realize. Even if hospice is that last thing you want to do, pretend to be really excited the learning opportunity. Don't let on that it's a last resort because you're desperate. LOL. (For me it's my chosen specialty, but I understand hospice is not for everyone). Be serious and professional, but enthusiastic at the same time.

Hope this helps!

Since I have not seen a thread with any TMCC Spring 2010 hopefuls, I thought it appropriate to start one. :D

I don't know about anyone else, but this waiting is driving me mad! :hdvwl: I took the HESI A2 exam and handed in my application and was told by the DON that we should not expect to see anything (a letter) before January.

Oh well. :crying2: LOL

If you have any information to contribute regarding accptance into the program, please post here so that we can 'be in the know'.

Thanks a bunch!

Hello all,

I'm from CA, and currently applying to grad schools for nursing. I'm looking for entry-level programs because my degree is not in nursing. Anyhow, I was looking at the private college, Touro University, and their website doesn't have much information on their Entry-Level Masters program. Can anyone share some information on this school? What are the pre-reqs? Is it competitive? Also, if anyone's currently in the program, how do they like it?

If anyone knows about any other entry-level Masters or accelerated BSN programs in NV, please let me know!
