Hi,
I am looking into becoming a CRNA but, my impression of the profession seems like CRNA's are mainly used on-call, like surgeons, with pagers attached to their hips. Is this true?

Is it possible to be a CRNA and have a regular 9 am to 5 pm gig? Do most CRNA's work in hospitals?

Thanks!

Hello! I wanted to start off by saying thank you to all that contribute to this forum. Even though I do not post I am in here everyday getting as much information as I can and for that I am so grateful to you guys. I just have a quick question. I am almost finished with my prereqs for nursing:yeah: I have been out of school for a while so I had a slow start. Ok my question is can I get my ADN in Nursing and my Bachelor's in Chemistry and still apply for the CRNA program or does my Bachelors have to be in Nursing also? Thanks!

Today I was having a hell of a time with oxygen desaturations. I had one guy (400 lbs mind you) that was grabbing stuff and talking with a real sat of 55%. I've never seen such a thing! The patients are desating, despite having little anesthesia on board (as evidenced by grabbing and eyes open). I've received no training on this stuff, but the nurses there said that the cannula will only flow 5L/min max. Is anyone else using this and having issues? Thanks!

Hello,
I am currently an SRNA and doing a little research on prescriptive authority for CRNAs. Does anyone know how many states have granted prescriptive authority to CRNAs? What are your thoughts on the topic? Does a CRNA need prescriptive authority to practice? Does it make your practice easier? Harder?
Thanks for your help!

At work yesterday a D.O. and I had a great conversation or maybe debate about why I want to be a CRNA. His argument is that in the time it takes a person to become a CRNA you can be a Doctor. He was not being ignorant as if he were implying a D.O. is better, but he was talking time and money. I said becoming the CRNA is better financially because unlike a Med student you can get a ASN and work as a RN go for a BSN then CRNA all the while earning a income. His argument was your spending the same amount of years in school. 4 maybe less undergrad and 4 years med school and if your all about money your certainly going to make more as a Doctor. It was more of a fun discussion and we had so many staff members debating the pros and Cons! One of the residents said that you have a lot less debt as a CRNA and your also going to make a lot more $$$ right out of college! Funny it opened the eyes of a lot of people. I would love to hear everyones opinion on all Nurses. Oh yeah, and the Doctor says the CRNA programs are so competive some only allowing 15 students thats it's actually more likely you'll be accepted to medical school than a CRNA program. Humm?

Hello,

Hello,
I am kind of confused on how the process works to become a CRNA. I graduated from a 4 year University with a degree other than Nursing. I am now on my last semester of pre requisites for the nursing major at a community college and will be applying to nursing schools at the end of this semester. I OWE A LOT OF MONEY from the University that that I attended, and I am unsure of my financial aid status since I have already graduated with a bachelors. I was thinking of applying to Associates Degree RN programs to get my licensure and then apply to a Masters program to become a CRNA. But I am not sure if I would need to get a BSN first. My question is:

1] Should I go straight to an Entry Level BSN-MSN program that will cost about $50,000 per year to get my RN license or should I do a Associates Degree for 2 years and pay about $5,000 then apply to a CRNA program [if there are any].

2] Are there any good direct ASN-CRNA programs or ASN-NP programs in California?? [NP is also one of the options that I was looking at].

3] How long will all of this schooling take me if i do ASN-BSN/MSN to BSN/MSN-CRNA?

4] Are online programs reliable in finding a job after graduation?

I am tryingn to weigh out all of the options before I apply to schools. I would like to know what is the most inexpensive route, and which route is the fastest?

PLEASE HELP!!
THANK YOU

I am looking into applying to CRNA programs in the Southern California area. Are there only two accredited programs (Kaiser and USC)? Also, what does your GPA have to realistically be to be considered for entry being that the programs are so competitive? Those who were accepted, what science, nursing and overall GPA did you have? I understand the minimum overall is 3.0. But, I think those few who are selected would probably have a lot higher? Do you think admissions/interviewers look at what school(s) you graduated from? Will they look at what ADN school I transferred from (I transferred from an ADN to BSN program)?
Thank you for your help.

HI. I am currently a SRNA who graduates soon and am starting to think about jobs. We have a lot of family in TX and know the Houston area. I know that GHA is the big group in Houston, TX and there are many hospitals, whether in the med center or out in the suburbs.
My question is what is the climate like there. I know there are plenty of jobs. Do CRNA's get to do regional, heads, hearts or do we just get the smaller stuff? I just want to know what it is like to work in Houston- I have heard about other places but not much about Houston.
Thank You
