St. Louis area hospitals for RN training?

I want to become an RN and I am unsure of the best way to go about it. I have heard before that in some hospitals, you can sign a contract to work for them for 18-24 months after graduation, and they will then pay for your training. I was wondering if anyone knows of any opportunities like that in the St. Louis area?

I have thought about going the CNA route and working my way up, but I am not sure how long I will be in the STL area, and I would like to avoid dragging this out for several years. I have spoke to STLCC but they have an 18 month-2 year waiting list. Does anyone have any other input or ideas for what I should do? I would ideally like to end up working in Labor and Delivery or at an OB office. Thanks in advance.

How hard is it for a GN to get a job in St. Louis? I keep hearing that it's getting increasingly difficult for new grads to find jobs because of the economy. How can I improve my odds of getting a job? I have a previous degree and work experience, no healthcare experience, and I will graduate with a BSN. Any thoughts/advice? THANKS!

Hello, I am currently considering looking for a part time job in a SNF. I am in nursing school full time and don't want to commit to a hospital until I get a feel of just how demanding my classes will be and how much I can handle to work. My question is, do any of you have any recommendations as to one that has been a postive working environment? I have already obtained my CNA certification, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks!

I've got an upcoming interview at Barnes-Jewish and was hoping to have a ballpark estimate of the hourly RN salary for a new grad - any idea? Any shift differential pay or difference with BSN?
Thanks!

I live in another state and submitted my app. for Mo RN licence. How long does the criminal background take? I read on the Mo BON site that it takes 3 monthes. I'm concerned b/c I've accepted a job, starts in 2 weeks. I read that I cant even get a temp permit in MO till the b/g check is completed. I am licenced as an RN in another state.

What have been your experiences with length of time from submitting all the paperwork until u get the licence?

I am currently getting my nursing pre-reqs done at MCC colleges. I think I have looked into every nursing program in the area but am not sure I can give up my current day job to go to a nursing full time day program (I am a wife, and mom of two kids). I am definitely leaning towards Penn Valley's program but of course won't be able to get in until 2012 (if accepted)...which means I won't be finished until 2014!!! I hate that thought. I noticed that NAU has a nursing program and it looks like I could maybe work it around my work schedule. I know it's a new school....any students out there that can tell me how it's going? Are people getting hired after graduation?? Will this type of school hurt me if I plan to go on and get my BSN and then my masters???

Hi, I am soon to be a new grad RN and just received an interview with Children's Mercy for the NICU. I have wanted this specific hospital/ department for ever and I am REALLY excited. Does anyone know what to expect as far as the interview goes? I was planning on wearing a black pants suit, is this appropriate? Should I bring a copy of my resume? Any other advice? Thanks so much.

I am gearing up to go back to school for nursing. I am looking to go into the LPN program at SCCC...

I am gearing up to go back to school for nursing. I am looking to go into the LPN program at SCCC after I take my science classes. I intend to eventually bridge to RN as well. Honestly I am scared to death to go back to school, but I have wanted to be a nurse all of my life. Now that I am done having my babies, it is time. My concern is that I will have a hard time finding a job in a hospital. Is anyone hiring LPNs anymore for hospitals? I really don't think that nursing homes are a good fit for me, and if it was a choice of working in a nursing home or a doctor's office, a doctor's office would win hands down. I am afraid I would lose important skills if go that route. Can anyone who has graduated tell me about the SCCC PN program or what it is like to be an LPN in St. Louis/St. Charles County area? Or where the best place to work is? Thanks so much!
