Will some of you nurses out there that already work in a doctor's clinic or hospital be so kindly as to tell me how much your clinic/hospital is charging for a physical assessment or medical examination? It's for nursing school and I'm required to get it before I start clinicals in January. I went to North Oaks Walk-in Clinic in Walker, Louisiana and they told me it was $216. I do not have insurance so I'm trying to find a clinic/hospital that will charge me a better price since I'm paying out of pocket. I wonder if my gynecologist will be able to do it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Unfortuanately, it's already the weekend. I will try to make calls on Monday.

Oh yeah, the type of physical I need.......includes vital signs, vision, general, skin, HEENT, heart, lungs, breasts, abdomen, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, spine, neurological, and mental health.

Charity or LSU-CARE? (and their Holiday schedules)

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking for a while, but this is my first post. Just for a little background, I'm 28 with multiple degrees, but I've been slowly working to get my prereqs done for the past few years to be able to apply for nursing. I've worked full time while taking classes, so it's been a slow process. I have submitted my application to Charity for Fall '10, and I'll be submitting an application to LSU-CARE by the deadline in February. I have so many questions, I don't know where to start...but the main 2 questions are below:

1) For people who applied to both programs, how did you pick one over the other, and are you happy with that decision?

and

2) What is the schedule like for holidays? (I can't find an academic calendar for either school showing if the program follows the typical academic calendar). I ask because I'm going to be planning a wedding soon, and I was going to try and schedule it during a break from school. But without knowing what the academic calendar is like, that makes it really hard. So, if anyone at Charity or in the CARE program could tell me what your semester/Christmas break looks like, I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for the input!

RN looking for PRN position in psych

I'm looking to work PRN in a psych facility near NO or Northshore area. I am a new RN. I am presently working at Greenbriar Community Care Center. I do everything from hanging IVs, drawing blood, wound care, to working with dementia, alzheimer's patients, and other geriatric mental disorders. The facility operates to serve a wide variety of client needs. Such as postop therapy and care, long term care, rehabilitation therapy services, including physical therapy, speech therapy and occupation therapy. A memory care unit is available for those suffering from Alzheimer's or experiencing other dementia issues. I graduated in Dec. of 08, passed my boards in March of 09, got a job at Greenbriar in April of 09 as a charge nurse, and became weekend supervisor in late June. I am a stand in for DON when needed. I love my job. I also love psych nursing. I work 2 16's on the weekend and have the whole week off. I would love a job PRN or PT in psych but there isn't much in this area that I can find. Please, if you know of any openings please let me know. The reason I was promoted so quickly asside from being a great nurse is that I have an extensive background in Management, and I enjoy people as much as they enjoy me. Please let me know if you know of anywhere I can get in.
