Hey guys. You all seem so knowledgeable so I am hoping you can give me some insight. I will be applying for the nursing program at BCTC for fall 10. Currently I have a decent GPA so I am not anticipating any issue getting in the program. I have completed almost all of my pre-req's and my CNA and will complete the next Anatomy in the Spring. My question is this...I am wanting to find a job at a hospital/doctor office to give me some hands on experience. We live in between Louisville and Lexington so traveling to either would not be an issue. What type of job do they typically give to someone with my experience? I'd rather not work as a CNA at a nursing home...I think I'd be happier at a hospital. Where do you guys suggest applying? I would like to find someplace that would offer tuition assistance and be flexible with my school schedule next fall.
Thanks!

I graduated in September from my LPN program. Since then I believe I have applied at every nursing home in the Louisville area, but no luck. I litterally went through the yellow pages and still nothing. I feel like all the hard work I put in was for nothing and that I'll never find a job. :crying2: Does anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate any help I could get.
Thank you!

I recently quit my job at a LTC facility. I never had time for my residents, much less time for a much needed break. I was in charge of 19-30 residents, and 1-2 CNA's in an eight hour shift. I had to do 2 med passes, tube feedings, IV ATB's, and some days I would new admissions. The paperwork was overwhelming. I did it as long as I could, but finally my body could not take it any more. I complained to my manager, but nothing was accomplished. I was working 50-60 hours a week, I was exhausted. I hated to quit, but I feel like I had no choice. I still feel bad for doing so. But I also had to think about my own well-being. I am now having trouble finding a nursing job. I interviewed through a staffing agency a week ago, but they have not offered me any shifts so far. So now I am home and wondering where to look for a job. I really don't want to go back to LTC, that really put a damper on my nursing career. I have been a LPN for 18 months, I wonder if I should pursue my RN? I am even thinking about applying for a pharmacy tech position or a seasonal job tomorrow, the bills will have to be paid. Does anyone have any good advice? :sniff::angryfire

Hi, I plan to go to a community college and get my ADN, then go to an accredited one-year RN program school like Galen or Indiana Wesleyan University to get my RN. So, my question is; will the people who decide if you go to CRNA school at Murry look differently at my application because I transferred around?

I do realize I need at least one year's experience in ICU as well as good test results. I am also willing to study my ass off for a good GPA.

Spencerian students reinstated

My wife was attending Spencerian College here in Louisville back in the Spring when her and 12...

My wife was attending Spencerian College here in Louisville back in the Spring when her and 12 other students were expelled from the program. It was near the end of the semester and they had a final exam which 13 students failed out of 30 some odd students. Well they were allowed to retake the exam but were told that they would have to make a B vs. the C that was in the contract. Well again they failed and were dropped from the roll. One of the students retained an attorney and informed the others that she was going to fight this. The attorney investigated the complaint, and sent a letter to the school stating that these students were wrongfully expelled and what they expected. So, just last month my wife and all the ones who failed were individually called and invited back to Spencerian to complete their ADN degree.:yeah: By requiring a B be made on the repeat test, the school violated their own original contract with the students. Meanwhile the school has went through a management change and is motivated in assisting the students in completing their degree in December. So, to those of you that feel mislead or out and out lied to by a nursing school, this should serve as a reminder that you have rights when you sign a contract so make sure that both you and the school adhere to it.
Good luck to all of you who are in school!!
