My original goal was to get my BSN from a University in CA, but as I'm getting closer to graduating from a community college & with the budget cuts for schools I'm finding it to be difficult getting into one of these universities. So my second plan was to go to school to get my AA from a community college, but I'm finding out every school I would like to apply to is a 2-5yr wait just to get my AA. So I was thinking of just going for my LVN licenses then later go into a university from a LVN-RN program. Question is what is the fastest/better way to become a traveling nurse as soon as possible? Do traveling nursing agencies accept LVN's to travel? thanks for your help.

Hello to all fellow Nurses.....I am a new RN. Due to personal reasons I just got my license 4 months ago, but I graduated 2006. Until now I haven't found any job yet. The web application is just so slow, and not even a 100% guaranteed that you will be picked. :( I am desperate for any placement just to gain experience, since most of the facilities I applied to required at least a year. How will I be able to get that experience if none of the hospitals nor facilities here in Southern California hires inexperienced nurses. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS???? :)

Hi,

I am an RN new grad (graduated in August, 2009). I had always wanted to move to California after graduation and work in critical care. However, with the odd time of my graduation (neither May or December) along with the economy, I was unable to make the move. I now work in a Telemetry floor in TX. Despite the setback, I still want to move to California after I have one year experience, and preferrably landing a job in the ICU. Is it easier for someone with a year experience to find a job in California?

Thank you!

This is my first time to post and I just became a member to this site. Here is my situation and would love some words of encouragement. I am returning to acute care (Endoscopy and PACU) after being out of the acute care arena for 24 years! I have been an RN since 1983, BSN 1995, MSN 2005. I have worked primarily in Public Health, Home Health and School Nursing. I will be given your typical orientation and I do not believe I will be "thrown to the wolves" but I am really nervous of making a mistake or not being quick-thinking enough. I did this same job 24 years ago, but ALOT has changed! I will be expected to take call and this is a full-time position. I hope someone will respond and give me some suggestions. Thanks!

How long did it take to get approved by WIA?

After going through all the necessary steps for WIA (going to the orientation, getting a case worker, getting accepted into LVN school) my case worker finally calls me to let me know my application was up, I was so excited thinking that meant I had got approved and just in time bc school starts Feb 2010, they had told me not to enroll or pay for school just get accepted and WIA would then pay for the school. Then when I go see her she tells me that this meeting is just to turn in the paperwork to WIA and a panel of 5 people reviews it and they decide if they will approve it and then she tells me that my application will probably not be reviewed until March 2010! I am on unemployment and to qualify for this program you have to be on unemp. when you are approved, it looks like by the time they get around to my app. I will not qualify! I can not afford to go to school full time and work as well, especially with a difficult course like this one where I will need to study a lot. My goals and dreams just went out the window. Has any one had the same experience? From the day you applied how long did it take to get approved? Is there anything I can do to expedite the process?

Hello, I am not a nurse yet and am thinking about becoming one, However, I am not 100% sure on how the schedueling works in the nursing field, If i choose to get 3 12 hour shifts in a hospital mon, tues, and wed, would that be posible? and would I always be schedueld for those days every week? Also, the weekend only shift, I have heard people working 2 12's geting paid for 32 hours and or 2 16's and geting paid for 40 hours, Do they have these weekend only shifts in california? and are they harder to get in to then 3 12s in the middle of the week?

I would love to work 2 12's or 2 16's on sat and sunday and have mon - friday off, What is the chances of geting hired for that in california?

any help would be great, thank you all :)
