Hi all, I just started this thread to hopefully hear from those who are familiar with the online RN to BSN program @ Utica College. I was recently accepted into the program and will start classes in Jan., but want to hear from anyone currently enrolled or any grads from the program. It seems like a very good program, the prices are reasonable, and there is no actual clinical component just "special projects." If anyone has :twocents: to throw in, please feel free to do so. Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Hey,

I found out that Mid State Technical College in Wisconsin offers Microbiology totally online (4 credits) including the laboratory. Like CCCOnline in Colorado, they use a LabPaq for the online lab. The course is designated Microbiology 10-806-197 and the section is listed as 24063. The course is used for their associate degree nursing (RN) program.

Here is their website:
http://www.mstc.edu/includes/microbiologymaterials.htm

It begins Jan 14, 2010. I am thinking of taking it. Anyone else interested or know anything about it?
And does anyone know what online courses you can get student loans on?

I'm studying for reproductive health right now and trying to stick with the study guide. But the chapters in the text have SO much more information in them. For example, all the congenital disorders... if I only study the ones listed I should be ok? I just don't understand why they give you entire chapters to read when only 1-2 sections out of them are on the exam!! I'm using Lisa Arends notes as my main guide with the text to back them up because I'm finding the text to be so overwhelming!

Thanks!!

:yeah::yeah:
Can you believe it?! I actually paid for it 1 year ago, and chickened out at the last minute!!! I didn't know at the time that NO SHOWS=NO REFUNDS!!! So I started studying it all over again, paid for it AGAIN, sucked in my gut, threw back my shoulders, and walked into that testing center today like I had CONFIDENCE:coollook:! IT WORKED! It took me 2 full hours to finish, but once I got over the SHOCK:eek: of all the questions that seemed completely FOREIGN to me, I put on my thinking cap and worked out that test like a puzzle! The ones I knew, I knew. The ones I didn't know, I was able to somewhat decipher their meaning and make an educated guess:specs:. I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF!!! YEA MEEEEE!!!:D:yeah:

BTW does anyone know what that upside down "µ" thingy with a long tail is? If you are gonna take Micro test anytime soon, learn whatever that thing is!!:uhoh3:

I have the A&P test at 8AM tomorrow...back to this :eek:...and wish me luck! :bugeyes:

Excelsior College and Georgia. How are the Precepted Clinicals Working?

I know a couple of people in Georgia who are starting the precepted clinicals after completing the...

I know a couple of people in Georgia who are starting the precepted clinicals after completing the EC ASN. From what I hear, it's easier if you do it through the hospital where you are employed. Is that the consensus?

What about those who work in a specialized facility that may not have psych, OB, and whatever other rotations that are required? Are hospitals welcoming non-employees who are already ASN grads for a 350-700 hour clinical preceptorship, and have no current affiliation with a school of nursing as a student? How does that work? Is it possible, considering the potential liability? Does the state provide an outline of a course of study for the clinical experience?

I ask because I participated in some of the political processes of the previous Georgia legislative session, and wondered if the process the State has mandated actually works for those forced to go through it. I'm not in a position of political power, but I am persistent, and, as an EC alumnus and Georgia resident, I would like to see the process made 'user friendly' for the preceptees. If the State changes the system, their solution should be fair and just for those affected by the change.

I plan to enter a PhD program when I finish the MSN in a few months, and the issue of clinical competency among students in different types of pre-licensure nursing course formats (distance vs. traditional vs. challenge exam, etc.) and the relevance of prior clinical experience has very little applicable research that I can find. It might make for a great project(s) for someone (maybe even me), and may actually be of benefit when state BONs place what appear to be unwarranted restrictions on new EC graduates. As long as there is ignorance regarding the issue, this will continue.

Any feedback from those currently jumping through the hoops?
