Hello all,

I've been a long time lurker, reading all this good information and exchange but I decided to join in the fun. I'm from the SF Bay Area where I'm an 4 yr ICU RN, CCRN. Our unit takes all comers; medicine, CT surg, neuro, vascular as well as the occasional EtOH in DT's and our favorite 5150 psych patient (why do we take them, you may ask . . . because no one else wants them, of course). Before becoming an RN, I was a respiratory therapist for 10 yrs . . . so, I touch the vent way more than I'm supposed to . . . . but I worked RT in the same ICU and the other RT's just shake their finger and say "bad, bad". Oh, I started as an RN at age 54 . . . this is my 5th career but I think I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up!!

Well, I was feeling very burnt and quit last June, figuring I could easily find work doing anything. Ha! Didn't expect the economy to fall apart, nor did I expect the unprofessional attitudes and behavior in other fields that I ran into.

So, after a LOT of soul-searching, I guess I'm back! Just completed my application for licensure where I live now and sent off my verification requests to the other states I hold a license in. And, I'm going to go back to ER. I was thinking about another area, but it just ain't in me! I'm sure I won't be fooling around with ICU for a few months, at least (bounced back and forth between ER and ICU, but mostly worked ER), so I don't think I should have much problem with ER, not after 20 years of it.

Hello again to you all! I don't feel so burnt out any more and I'm ready to rock! Should be about a month or two and I'll have the new license...

This place seems to have changed! No tag lines for general member? What's up with that? Guess I'll just have to add one each time I post! :spin:

Hi all-

I am new to this site having found it as I am researching returning to school to complete my RN-BSN. I am in the metro Atlanta area and have been an RN since 1990. I work in dialysis nursing, both in-patient/acute and chronic outpt. My hubby and I have been married almost 21 years and I have four kids ranging from 14 down to 3. Currently I work PRN and hope to leave it that way at least until I finish school.

Hello to everyone.

I found this site looking for other nurses that travel and to see if it's something I would be interested in doing. What a great site for nurses from so many walks of life to get together and share their experiences and offer advise. I look forward to reading the many posting and gaining some insite on the many avenues that a career in nursing can take you!!

Admitted to BC, prenursing Winter 2010!!

I just found out tonight that I was admitted to Broward College (BC--Davie, FL, Central campus) for...

I just found out tonight that I was admitted to Broward College (BC--Davie, FL, Central campus) for Nursing, although this is really pre-nursing considering I haven't taken their pre req's yet. I am so excited about this for so many reasons!

I'm 21--have been attending the University of Central Florida since 2006 till July of this year, though not as a nursing major, that's a new development.

I have my English pre req out of the way seeing how I took it AP back in high school--hope they still accept my AP credit, but it's only from '06, so I don't see why they wouldn't. I wonder if I'll have to send my AP scores in or if they'll accept it from my UCF transcript? Hmm..

Anyway, I *AM* worrying a ton about getting good grades in the pre req courses (A&P I and II and their labs, plus chem and a health care core class)--seems like to get accepted into the nursing program you need near perfect grades! That's kind of daunting. At UCF my GPA was only a 2.89...not that I'm a bad student, but I did have an 'F' in there for an Advertising class. Glad my Broward GPA will only be based off of the pre req classes. It's nice, in a way, to start new. Although I don't exactly like feeling as if I've lost three years of university...but I'm going to go back for my RN to BSN later and so I know it'll have been helpful to have all of my Gen Ed's done.

This seems to be turning into a rant, a bit. But it's a nursing forum and it's so nice to talk..I'm a new, first time mom, so I don't get that too often. My son is almost 3 months old and is quite a handful-he has colic and reflux and refuses to sleep anywhere other than on someone. I'm not sure how going back to school will work for my family and I, but I'm doing it and we'll make it happen somehow. I live with my fiance and we live with my parents in the house I grew up in just down the road from the BC campus--convenient!!

I also am worried about the HESI A2 entrance exam that it would appear BC is beginning to implement with the August 2010 Nursing class. That, or one after it likely, will be my class. Ahhhh, I couldn't have gotten in before, huh? Not worried about any of the components other than math, which I'm awful in. :/

Is anyone else starting up at BC, any campus, in Jan 2010 for prenursing? It'd be nice to have study buddies since the coursework is SO vital!

Either way, introducing myself, and it'd be nice to chat and get to know anyone. :)
:spin:

Hi there,
I have been on this site many times and have decided to finally join you all.
I will be graduating next month and needed some guidance on nclex-rn preparation.
I have gotten mixed messages from previous grads...some took review courses and passed. Some did only review through nclex study books and cd and also passed.
Which do you recommend? I would like to pass it on the first try and don't have a lot of funds to spend on a review course, but will if it helps a lot.

I live in the Metropolitan area of Detroit, MI. Any ideas of good review courses here?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
