I was accepted at excelsior for my BSN,mind you I started with them 15 years towards my BSN and Quit. I had 15 credits with them towards my BSN in nursing classes that they would NOT accept towards my BSN now as 'the curriculum' has changed. Then they won't give me an 'official' transcript review until i 'enroll' which is almost $1000,which really ticked me off. The other BSN nursing programs I have applied to and there have been many would not take any of my BSN nursing classes from excelsior. Pretty disgusted and have narrowed it down to two other schools.

All I have heard from them was 'enroll' first, then we will give you the info you want and see how many credits you really need. in the end to me it was a money thing with them and being they wouldn't accept their own BSN nursing credits spoke volumes to me. My opinion

Grand Canyon Rn-BSN and Chamberlain both take Excelsior. I thought about going with Excelsior again for my BSN, but like you, I didn't want to plunk down a lot of money, just to be told I needed more classes. They have all my transcripts from way back, but still wanted official even though I didn't do any more learning since then. Well, college anyway, lol.

I also wanted a degree that could travel with no limitations. Not that I plan on leaving my state, but you never know, lol.

Grand Canyon looked at my transcripts and gave me a course outline without it costing a dime.

Not being able to get an "official" word on my stats class and some of my other 206 credits is the reason I went with Chamberlain. I have had a great experience with EC for the ADN and I am back with EC for my MSN, but that really ticked me off, and I took my education dollars elsewhere. Not sorry I did -- loved Chamberlain! But I am very much enjoying EC's MSN program, too.

I do not blame you. I would have done the same thing.

Curious though on why you did not stay with Chamberlain for the MSN? I was looking at them for my BSN, but it required me to travel a couple of times out of state for an immersion. I didn't want to do that, so I went with GCU.

EC charges $250/credit hour for active duty military, which is covered completely by my Army tuition assistance. Fabulous tuition for an MSN! And it was a known evil. Hahaha! :)

Love that tuition!

I would say that it does take a lot of self discipline. The exams are a piece of cake. Paying all the fees however is a little rough if you do not qualify for any financial aide like myself. I am scheduled for the CPNE (the mother-load of all tests!!!) in Jan 2013 and I have been studying like a crazy woman. I hope to pass on the 1st try. I hear a lot about failures online.... however I personally know at least 3 people that have passed on the first try, I am not sure how your state will not "accept" graduates of this program. If you have a license, you are a RN, it doesn’t matter where you graduated from!!

-Lisa LPN and soon to be RN!
