Motivation needed to get through Excelsior RN program

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hi. My name is Dianne and I have been an LPN for 2 years. I started to take my pre-req's for Excelsior's ASN RN program Jan '11. I have completed the Sociology exam and I am about to take the Life Span and Development exam. These have not been terribly difficult classes but have taken me forever to complete due to motivation issues. I want to continue this track because I have to work (as a home care nurse) while I go to school. The thought of going to a community college to go through an RN program gives me the willies just thinking about it. LPN school was intense, I can only imagine what the RN program would be like.

So, I am wondering if anyone out there is currently taking classes through Excelsior and would be interested in a study buddy (virtual) or local ( I live in Mass). My next class is Transition from LPN to RN.

Looking forward to hearing from you. :)

Specializes in Home Health, Podiatry, Neurology, Case Mgmt.

I tried emailing it but it keeps coming back as undeliverable.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I would bet it's supposed to be [email protected]. Just guessing. :D

Use the practice tests, follow the outline for studying. You are already a nurse. Check out yahoo groups or the EC site to learn about care plans. I took CPNE in 2009, failed the first one, passed the second. Getting the careplans short and sweet made a huge difference.

I just started EC for the LPN to RN. I am super freaked out. I work full time and have 3 kids. I am so worried. Any advice you can give to me would be greatly appreciated! How much time did you dedicate to it, how long did it take, and any advice/pointers would be awesome!!! you can email me at [email protected] if that would be easier!

It seems that we are in the same boat. I have completed all of my theory nsg courses and will be starting the FCCA on Monday... I allotted 1 month per test. I passed all my test on the first try except for chronicity. I feel that I was ill prepared for that test bc I didn't use the practice test. The only study info I used was studyguide 101, Saunders comprehensive nclex review book ed 5, quizlet and the practice exams.. I tried and study for 2 hours each night and on the wends I would study for about 6 hours and that's with breaks in between. With all the questions I got wrong on the practice exams I would review and look up so that I could understand why I got the answer wrong. Hope that helps:)

EC practice exams are worth their weight in GOLD!

You purchase them on the EC website, they are $75 each. I highly recommend them ;)

He all,

I am an LPN...attending Excelsior and working on my ADN. I am finishing up my LAST pre-req and plan on applying for the Nursing program in the Fall 2014.

1. are the nursing courses like the other general Ed, 8 weeks in length and $1295? plus we pay for the exam right?

2. How long did it take you to complete ALL the nursing courses??

3. HOW is the CPNE??? I REALLY REALLY am trying to not even think about it, but reading articles and others' experiences, it makes me second guess signing up with Excelsior.

4. Are there practice tests we can purchase online to help with the tests at the center??

1. You either do the course OR the exam. Not both. Exams are much less expensive.

2. Five months.

3. Read my article: https://allnurses.com/excelsior-college-online/clinical-performance-nursing-884109.html

4. Yes, there are practice exams for each EC exam. You can purchase access to the practice exams after you have paid for/registered for the actual exam. More info: https://allnurses.com/excelsior-college-online/excelsior-college-distance-808335.html
