Has anyone used the Lisa Arends study guides for EC? Is the material updated since she graduated ADN in 05?

Thanks in advance.

I have read comments in the past that said she did not update her material, however studygroup101 does update their material.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the Distant Learning forum

Study group101 was helpful

Specializes in Emergency, Case Management, Informatics.

I used both larends and studygroup101 to prep, and I felt that studygroup101 material was much more relevant and concise.

Thanks. I don't know what studygroup101 is though.... help?

I haven't used studygroup 101 but some students find the study guides helpful. I'm debating if I should get them or just use the EC practice exams.

Specializes in wound care, sub-acute, community nursing.

I would use BOTH studygroup101 and the practice exams---I have found that MOST of the material on practice exams will pop up in the actual exam. I have done the practice exams then studies from the post exam Q&A after and that helps alot becauser they have rationals for all of them! Good luck!!!

I personally avoided Lisa Arends after I got the first cd of hers and nearly failed.

On top of everything she claims that her material is copyrighted, however, many of her modules, and photos are taken from other publications, so I am not sure how she can copyright someone else's work.

Studygroup101 was more up to date and much more relevant.

I also used an old med-surg book that I had and that helped immensely.

I have Lisa's CDs and studygroup101 - SG101 is better by far! I'm not certain that Lisa's are updated, alot of the dates are 2005. Too many passwords, you can't print half the stuff and when you do it has that cartoon nurse picture on it all over! I've been using the SG101 material and so far doing excellent (keeping my fingers crossed!!) I've finished Transition-A, Health Safety-A, Repro-A, LS1-B & 3-B and used their general courses also. I was gonna take transition first so I bought the CD for that late last year and got an update from SG101 not long after. So they DO update their material as promised. I'm waiting on the updated Chronicity that is supposed to be out shortly then I will start working on that one!

Lisa Arends' Lifespan Development was one of my resources for the HG&D CLEP. Fortunately, I used other resources, too. I have the REA book, Santrock text, the HG&D guide from College Board, and had used Instacert for a month (a while back). Of all of them, hers was the least useful. I found the errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation to be annoying... and made me wonder if there were also mistakes in the content. I found some of her quiz questions were taken directly from College Board CLEP notes... I agree with the other post that wondered how her material could be copyrighted, when it was clearly taken from other sources.

I do have 1 or 2 other study guides purchased from her, on other topics. I am not saying there is not some good material there, but would recommend using other resources also!
