Nursing Students Excelsior

with the college network -

Call it buyer's remorse followed by some not so postive feedback. Well, that and 5400 for a bunch of study guides seemed absurd even with "guarantee". :uhoh21:

I am looking for opinions :) regarding the best distance ed for an LPN-RN.

I am open to whatever any of you have to offer. I am dealing with a bit of a time crunch and would like to be done in 12 months. I do have some college credit and have done dl through my community college w/o a problem.

Thanks in advance - feeling shakey but motivated.

I know the feeling of wanting to hurry and get done. if you are going through Excelsior, no matter how fast you prepare for your tests, expect some delays on Excelsior's part. If you fail a test, you muct wait 60 days to retake. You must register for each exam and wait for a confirmation (I got around a very long wait by paying for the classes with a debit card and then calling in to Prometric until they had gotten my info., which was usually a couple of days later) Then, you have to work around the testing center's schedule. Sometimes, they can get you in within a couple of weeks but many times they can't schedule you for several weeks because the testing center stays so full. Then when you finish your written portion you must wait for the CPNE study guide and registration form. Then you have to take a physical, etc.. The lab work they require was expensive (more than $300) and finally you will have to wait 4-6 months to take your CPNE.

I hate to sound discouraging but unless you want to knock out a couple of tests or more a month it will be difficult. I finished the ADN program in 11 months but I didn't have any pre-requisites to take.

As far as the College Network goes, who told you you need a publishing company? Just ask for a free study guide from Excelsior and use that. Heck of a lot cheaper than 5+ grand.

Oh my gosh. I just payed the College Network a few grand to do there study guides after talking to ISU. I didnt know you could do the same thing with the other college. I have finished my first year with a local Community COllege. I have no pre reqs left to take. How was the ADN program thru Excelsior?

Are these the study guides for Indiana State University's LPN-BSN program?

I got hung by college network and now have all these study guides I'll never use cause I got into my choice college here at home. I jumped the gun and now owe thousands of dollars and the books just collect dust.

Is this for excelsior?!? don't pay for study guides! I used the free guides from excelsior and I had no problems passing any of the exams!

I know that feeling. Am paying off the loan and the books are just collecting dust. I just chalk it up to a lesson learned. If it sounds to good to be true it usually is. I would not recommend the college network to anyone.

OMG how I wish I had seen these forums sooner! Same experience only it was in 09 & for the "BSN track" it was more like 10k:madface:! I was totally mislead into the college networks deception of being partnered with excelsior and automatic entrance into ISU. On my last week of LVN school our DON actually brought in a rep for TCN that she had used when she got in their Masters program and had him talk to our class and of course going off our excitement to graduate and our trust for the school we attended enthusiasm for the program several of us signed up on the spot and regretted it within days when we learned they got kickbacks for "referring" new clients. =/ Now I make a point of stopping by the school and :nono:cautioning the soon to be graduates of the difference between a publishing company and an actual college! Lesson learned on my part! I'm moving out of Cali so now I think I am going to go with Excelsior since it really wasn't an option living in CA but this time Im doing my homework and hope Excelsior is a much better experience.
