Is Excelsior right for me?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

What are the chances of Excelsior taking me into their ASN program? A little bit about my situation. I have been working as a CNA and attending a traditional BSN program. I was supposed to graduate this coming Thursday, but recieved a C on med-surge II.....another 1 point and it was going to be a B-, and this is my second C, so I will get dismissed from the program in about a month after they possess my execution. Basically, I have completed 95% of a BSN program, and failed right at the finish line. I understand that Excelsior takes those who are already employed in a clinical capacity, haven't gotten a grade lower than a C, and, what concerns me most, is their requirement of "maintained good academic standing." Will they reject me for being dismissed by my traditional school for 2 Cs?

I'll let the experts chime in but I believe EC has stopped accepting RN students who haven't yet finished their studies. They used to do so. If you qualify in your State to take the NCLEX-PN then you might be able to qualify on the basis of your LPN license. I'll go look around their site and see if I can find a direct link to the answer.

I followed a link by PixieRN that is under our FAQs for EC. Under what clinical backgrounds qualify I copied only the section on RN student nurses but you can go to the page and see if you qualify any other way. The emphasized areas are from the original site.

Individuals who have completed at least 50% of the clinical nursing credit hours with a minimum grade of C within 5 years of enrollment into Excelsior College will be reviewed on a case-by-case appeal basis. Only applicants who are currently employed in a clinical capacity and maintained good academic standing (minimum grade of C in all nursing courses) throughout their nursing program will be considered in this appeal process.

The only accurate answer would be from the EC SoN, EC academic advisor or EC admissions counselor. They will do phone or online chats to discuss your particulars. The caveat in your case, like you stated, is dismissal may not be considered good academic standing even though you had two C grades.
