However, I am willing to purchase something if it makes a difference between grades :-) Are all of the nursing exams, that Excelsior gives, NCLEX format Qs?..or is more knowledge-based?
- Jul 17, '10 by Terry/Quote from LunahRNOk lunah, I want to inquire on how you are doing with the Excelsior College as I am thinking about to start. Please inform me on status. Thanks my email is rutledge2108@msn.comIt wasn't wrong, but you can take pre-reqs and a couple of the nursing exams before you have to pay the enrollment fee. Once you've paid that, you've started the clock ticking toward your student services annual fee (SSAF) being due, which is $440. But no worries -- I did the same thing!

Pick your first exam -- might as well start with Essentials of Nursing Care: Health Safety, which was formerly known as NC1. Download the exam content guide (when you've logged in to your "MyEC" page on the website, you'll see a link for "Free Examination Content Guides" somewhere down the right side of the page), and use that content guide to direct your learning. Some people use textbooks, others use notes from eBay sources like StudyGroup101, or used TCN modules on eBay. I used a combination of all of those things. There is a lot of information on Excelsior in this forum -- the search function can help.
Good luck!! - Jul 17, '10 by Terry/Quote from StrawberryBananaHey just wanted to check with you on how Excelsior is working out for you, I am about to start and trying to find somebody with some knowledge about this program. Please Help..... Thanks so much!!!!Really Erika? I heard that you don't need anything extra, at all, outside of the actual practice tests and guides. - Jul 18, '10 by MedsportI just heard that Ohio is not going to except excelsior or online degrees after this year. I was still kind of thinking of doing the online degree, but not if this is going to be the case.
- Jul 18, '10 by LunahRNQuote from MedsportDo you have any documentation/links to support that?I just heard that Ohio is not going to except excelsior or online degrees after this year. I was still kind of thinking of doing the online degree, but not if this is going to be the case.
- Jul 18, '10 by LPNBearColumbusQuote from MedsportI can find no information on the Ohio BON website that would indicate that this is true. I would find it highly unlikely that the OBON would stop ACCepting on line degree sources or stop allowing Excelsior graduates to be licensed in Ohio. As Lunah asked, do you have any documentation to back up your claims?I just heard that Ohio is not going to except excelsior or online degrees after this year. - Jul 18, '10 by halexander4Just so I have this.... I am graduating from an LPN program in September and will be taking my NCLEX PN in October. Do I need to wait to complete my NCLEX to start with Excelsior? If not does it go like this???
Pay the $75 for my transcript evaluation
Take the tests I can before enrolling to save on cost
Then pay the other fees???
I have called the school a few time but for some reason I keep getting people who really are unable to answer my questions...
I have an associates degree in another field as well as several other classes I am thinking I may not need many of the prerecs...spete39 likes this. - Jul 18, '10 by LunahRNIf you're qualifying for the program based on your LPN licensure, then yes, you need to pass the NCLEX-PN before you can apply. My suggestion is to focus on your NCLEX studies, then do as you've outlined -- transcript eval, test before enrolling, etc. I think you could probably do the two nursing exams that don't require enrollment before you take your NCLEX, but again, I recommend focusing on NCLEX studies to ensure the best outcome there.
Welcome to allnurses!
