GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hey All,

I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.:banghead:

Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.

I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead::banghead: :banghead:

I live in Lawrenceville. THanks for the other update, i like your news much better. Before i start excelsior i will make sure i get the additional information before putting the big bucks in.

i called the GA state board of nursing and they said that they are NOT letting anyone who is going through excelsior sit for the NCLEX, however you can sit in another state for that test BUT you have to work 500 clinical hours under that RN license in THAT state before you can get a transfer license from state of GA.

Okay, why are they (BON) providing conflicting information? I just called and was told to apply for endorsement after sitting for boards for another state and then after the application was reviewed they'd make a determination; there was no mention of 500 clinical hours. I hope another recent grad from Georgia can offer some insight. Until then, I'll continue with my studies.

Don't know if this helps but I found this on the BON website http://rules.sos.state.ga.us/docs/410/7/01.pdf. It is my understanding that by endorsing in 500 work hours are not required. Anyway, I'm not going to stress over it; just going to keep on keeping on.

I am also in ATL. several people that I know did excelsior, just endorsed their RN license

in. you have to sit for boards in another state (ex. S.Carolina) then do the paperwork and pay the required fee. GBON just will not allow you the take the test for GA boards but they accept your actual RN license from another state. THAT'S ALL, if it is something different than that it must have just changed for aug.

You'd be supprised the number of Regents/Excelsior grads here in GA. The key is to not procrastinate and get it done before any rules change. So you all just get it in gear and get it done as fast as possible.

and once you've got it, don't worry about getting a job. I run into excelsion/regents grads almost on a daily basis.

Craig,

That's the best advice I've heard yet which is why I'm studying my butt off.

There are obviously enough GA Excelsior people here that we could start our own support group/ Study group etc. IF anyone is interested, drop me a PM and I'll be happy to start organizing something. Yahoo or google groups, i've even got a couple of blank web sites out htere that could be formatted. If there is enough interest the sky is thelimit.

Excelsior sent me an email today stating that the Board had ruled that they will no longer accept ECs by endorsement even though they are licensed in another state. No date of making this official was mentioned; it seemed to be a done deal. The email was from EC's Dean of Nursing, Dr. Nettleton.

That's terrible, I was thinking about moving to GA.....way back when. Why are states are falling off EC's maps like wildfire? I hope this isn't a trend.

ISU is starting to look a lot more promising. I didn't want to go straight for my BSN, I wanted to take it in steps. Oh well, I guess I'll do what I must; I'm not going to let anything get me down nor block me from my goals.

well the shortage of rn's in ga is gone get bigger and bigger!

in the rural areas they are having a very difficult time finding rn's now. so all those lpn's that have to work to support families have another hurdle to over come.

how sad!!
