EC grads,

Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:

I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.

Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

Thank you!!?

There will always be some that find the program doesnt live up to what they were expecting.  I went in to this with my eyes wide open. When I started the excelsior RN program it was a little different than what it is now.   I was able to test out of the nursing classes. All of them. The only classes I took online were the ones for my general ED. requirements.   From what I have been told Excelsior does not offer testing out, except for the general ED. classes now.  Since the CPNE is finally dying away at the end of the month and is being replaced by additional classes and some clinical requirements, the stress on the student will be alleviated quite a bit.  That CPNE was no joke.  Alot of money and very easy to fail, which I did a couple times. But circumstances emerged that I was able to pass the CPNE.

Now working in a busy local hospital ER and life couldn't be better.  Im making about 40% more money, base salary, than I did as a medic and alot of hospitals, due to severe shortage issues of personnel, are offering crisis pay. My hospital................offering any hours I work over my normally scheduled 3 shifts a week is paying an additional $40.00 an hour.  That's on top of my normal hourly rate which is in the high 30's an hour.

If you like money, its a glorious time to be an RN!!!

You have no idea how much you have eased my mind with applying to Excelsior. I’m currently an LPN now but now I’m going to pursue my RN. Your absolutely right about “the some” that will down the program , and that’s what kind of changed my mindset about applying. But thank you for being straight forward with me. I’m also glad that CPNE is going away. Let me go take this TEAS so I can get closer to securing this RN money. Thank you again.

No problem at all.   If you encounter any problems or need any help in registering please don't hesitate to contact me and ill offer any assistance or guidance you may need.   Just one bit of advice I can give for new nursing students starting soon is that the classes you'll be taking are facilitated completely online and this will have some thinking they can just wing it and not put too much effort into the classwork thinking that its "the easy way".

Im  living testimony that the classes can be extremely challenging but if you can remain disciplined and put your all into it then I have no doubt that you will excel in getting your RN license.  When I took the gen ED classes, and there like 28 or 30 credits needed, I studied daily and got straight A's except 1 class I took I got a B and my final grade for it was 89.4 and the teacher wouldn't budge.  Back in the dinosaur Age when I was in high school I was a C or C+ student. I think its because with maturity I realized the importance of being diligent to get the highest grade possible with the end point goal of getting my RN license.

I graduated July 2014, passed NCLEX Sept 2014, and started working as a RN July 2015. I had previously been a Paramedic, since 1989. Only regret….not doing it sooner! I truly love the OR and thanks to the PeriOp101 program, got on the job training. No need or desire to ever work on a floor. Encouraging everyone to LPN-RN, Paramedic-RN. You won’t regret it!
