Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?

Nursing Students Excelsior

EC grads,

Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:

I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.

Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.

Maryland will now allow licensure by endorsement for Excelsior grads with 1000 hours of work experience in the 12 months immediately prior to the request for licensure and Georgia now requires a preceptorship. California is the only state that still will not license an Excelsior grad either by examination or endorsement.

For the poster asking about licensure in Australia - I believe you will need a BSN to work there. I know that you need a BSN to work in New Zealand and those two countries have reciprocity (I'm thinking of relocating to New Zealand at some point in the future and researched their requirements). You can google the information and go directly to Australia's board of health to see what their requirements are.

Georgia will endorse if more than 1800 hours nursing experience. I just got my license from them. Just be warned they are incredibly slow in processing everything and letters of reference helps. Get letters from your director of nursing specifically stating you are clinically ok and that you have good critical thinking skills as well.

I was an LPN for 24 years prior to enrollment with EC in August 2009. Graduated and passed NCLEX in April/June 2010 respectively. I kept my same job as a PRN float nurse for a year then relocated, where I did a year in a cardiac step-down unit at one hospital while maintaining a float position at a teaching hospital where I am now. Presently, I'm in the process of endorsing to Florida and am on course to RN-BSN completion with EC by April of next year...if all goes as planned. Once that is completed, nothing but tropical working vacations for me!

And CONGRATULATIONS to you Lyndaa!! Not sure if I will have the motivation to go for the BSN after I am done with this. BUT... who knows??!! Wow, you really got through the ADN portion fast! I had a slow start... I will watch your progress on other threads...

I started Excelsior in 9/08 and graduated officially 9/09 with my ADN . Now, I am working in Home Health (love it) in NC and my salary from LPN in LTC went from 32,000 to 63,000 this past year! Do I regret it? NO! Wished I would have done it sooner! Now, to obtain my BSN!

So proud of all you graduates of EC! I went there back in 1992 when it was still Regents college. Graduated in 94 with Associates. Got MSN in 2011 Stick with it! Y'all can do this!

I'm not an EC grad YET. I just started their MSN program and I live in NY. My hats off to all the EC ADN grads. I wanted to do it but was advised not too. However, I have respect for EC ADN grads. It takes great perseverance and determination to study on your own.

I'm glad EC has given many nurses the opportunity to further their education.

Just curious if there are any Ohio grads here and if so, where are you working now?
