Excelsior : Chronicity!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Passed Chronicity today by the grace of God with a "C". I passed health/safety a week ago today and it was pretty easy so I got cocky and scheduled Chronicity for today. The previous posts about SG 101 were right: SG 101 does NOT fully prepare you for this exam!!! My advice is to study other sources too. I am not all about giving a handout but I figure anyone who made it to this test has earned their stripes in my book so here are a few pointers from me: There is alot of sensory questions so know your eye diseases, macular degeneration, detatched retina, increased IOP, eye drops to treat them ears, cochlear implant, etc. Also be prepared to LIST in order the stages of death and dying 1 thru 5. The culture questions were not as cut and dry as the exams on SG 101 either. Know the difference between community based and community health nursing. Thats about all I can remember. My test had 160 questions, not 130 like the normal ones. I heard in allnurses that the 130 question tests were being used again for chronicity but mine was 160. Thought I was gonna be retired before that test ended. Stay sharp, stay focused. take a short break if you need to and just stare at the floor a minute or 2 when you start zoning out. I drank an energy drink before the test and it helped me stay focused. I am not the best test taker on Earth so this exam may be cake for you, I dont know. Hope this helps! Please feel free to share chronicity or any other Excelsior exam comments/questions with me! we will get through this!!!!

I have used Lisa Arend's notes for the NC series exams when I first enrolled and the current exams and I found that they were helpful before but now they are dated. The newer exams are different and contain more up to date information.

I advise using a NCLEX Review book, the required readings, and other things with caution. The helpfulness of the outside sources besides the suggested readings is very relative.

Seriously? I will look into Pearson vu Nclex Rn. I have the 6 modules from TCN i got cheap online and I have two required texts. Modules not enough but don't want to go crazy buying all the texts. Thanks for the inisight.

Which Nclex RN do you have? I have Saunders from 2002 and I'm thinking of getting another one.

I used the Saunders NCLEX-RN 3rd edition from 2005 for all my nursing exams.

Ok thank you.

I have Saunders 4th Edition from 2007 I think... Going to be getting the 5th edition from 2010 for my NCLEX studying.

I may check out the Pearson Vue Nclex RN.

Congrats and thanks so much for the helpful info!! I will be taking this test in a couple of weeks. I have been using sg101 and nxlex-rn. I LOVE my nclex book. I have the newest one that came out in october. I will be going over the eye and ear stuff in the nclex book!!!

Hi...I just got the Pearson Vue nclex-rn today. It looks good. I'm going to dive into it tonight.

I picked up the Pearson vue nclex-rn today. It looks good. thaks for the info.

In the Pearson Vue nclex rn did you just study the chapters that related to the exam you were taking? I'm taking Chronicity on June 3rd. I have been looking over End of Life and Sensory chapters. what other chapters did you study when you studied for this exam? thanks Cissy

I look at the study guide and find the various diseases listed in part a in the index and study those areas. Then if it is end of life I sometimes read the whole section just in case.
