Can excelsior grads who later obtain their NP or CRNA practice in MD or CA?

Hello, just curious, can excelsior ASN grads who later receive their NP or CRNA from another program practice in MD or CA as a NP or CRNA or would they still be restricted? Thanks

Yep -- higher level of licensure and requires you passing other board exams.

i'm not so sure. check the brn web site and click the application links. they state that eligibility requires the possession of an active california registered nurse (rn) license.

nurse anesthetist

the nurse anesthetist is a registered nurse who provides anesthesia services ordered by a physician, dentist, or podiatrist, and is certified by the brn in this specialty.

the nurse-midwife is a registered nurse who, having received a certificate from the brn, under the supervision of a licensed physician and surgeon, attends cases of normal childbirth and provides prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including family planning care for mothers and immediate care for the newborn.

there are three methods to qualify for certification as a nurse-midwife with the brn. general reporting of prior conviction/disciplines are required for all methods.

Interesting ... that'll teach me to assume! But it seems kind of weird, considering that those advanced practice-types general have a higher level of licensure with board exams. Does it actually say they have to have an RN license in CA, or just an RN license + the additional preparation? I can't really view the PDFs on my phone...
