Starting My Own Flu Shot Clinic...

Nurses Entrepreneurs

So some of you may know that I lost my older brother to H1N1 this past Feb. I talked with my sister-in-law last night and she told me that she and a good friend of my brother's would like to host a flu shot clinic in my brother's name during the Oktoberfest auto races in my city. My brother was a huge NASCAR fan, never missed a race in the city where they lived and had been coming down for the Oktoberfest races for the last few years and his friend is one of the owners of the ARCA Midwest Racing. She asked if I could help with getting names of people to contact. The more I think about it I realize that I want to do the clinic, I want to be able to do that for my brother and help to help prevent others from suffering the same loss my family and I have...

I just don't know where to start or what I need to do to get this started.. I've tried looking online but I'm not getting anything... Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for me? Thanks!

No ideas here, but I'm sorry for your loss. I love the idea, and hope someone else can chime in.

I am so sorry for your loss....((HUGS)) I moved this thread to Entrepreneurs in Nursing for best response

Are you looking to set up a free clinic (charity) or starting a for-profit business? Your post doesn't make it clear what you want.

You have some hoops to jump through if you want a money making business. The ACA requires free preventative medical practices, including free vaccinations if you carry health insurance as minimum standards. So besides whatever regulatory approval you might need (pharmacists and physicians have it already, not sure about solo nurses), and actually purchasing product and marketing your business, to make a profit, you may have to become a provider for many insurance companies to get reimbursed for the majority of your potential market.

It would be a good idea to ask a pharmacist how many of the vaccinations they provide are paid out of pocket rather than going through an insurance company. The typical pharmacy charge I see is $25 plus or minus $5 for flu vaccination. A pharmacist might also share the wholesale cost with you so you have some idea about the margins you will be working with (or the cost of providing charity) but I'm going to guess that the vaccine itself is only a couple bucks a shot.

Rather than trying to set up from scratch, I'd suggest contacting local hospitals and see if they will sponsor your clinic during the event.

Hi. I am trying to find out the same information regarding Ppds and flu shots. I can keep you informed along the way. Are you a license home care agency, or certified
