by EzraRn

Hello Everyone,

Can some of you please mention what type of specialty clinic a nurse can open to become independant in the health care field?

Thank You

As a RN it is hard to have a clinic, since you will have a hard time obtaining rinbursement from insurance companies. Some have done foot care, wound care, diabetes education, immunization, just to name a few.

you can become a NP and have a clinic, have a doctor as your medical director,
don't know if any are doing that, but thats what I envision for myself..
I also know a couple of nurses who offer education;
ACLS, BCLS and PALS training..and seem to stay very busy

Is the assumption that without access to the insurance payors that a clinic is commercially non-viable?

Check with your board of nursing, unless you are a nurse practitioner. They are really clamping down on non-advance practice nurses practicing outside their scope.

Nurse anesthetists are setting up pain clinics and are doing very well, but it is necessary to be a CRNA to do this and there are restrictions against it in a couple states.

I think the assumption is that without being able to bill insurance payors a nurse entrepreneur would have an uphill struggle. In the current economic climate a nurse entrepreneur would have a very steep uphill battle. A well thought out business plan is critical.
