Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

So... What are y'all up to? What is going on with your businesses big and small that you care to share?

I for one have just incorporated. It looks like I will go with an S Corp. tax wise. I have been taking a samll business class on Small business start up. It is a nationwide class that is usually organized with the blessing of local Chamber of Commerces.

I am in the midst of becoming CPR certified so I may start providing coarses for a fee. So far, I have done some volounteer work without the clinical protion of instruction.

I am attempting to vendor my RN services indepently at local facilities.

So.. what is up with you?

B.

I recently became an S corp as well. I am in the market to provide private pay RN services.
I can't decide if I should join the NNBA, or just wing it.
I still need to upgrade my malpractice insurance.
I do have one client who I plan to see weekly to help her fill pill boxes and draw blood as needed! YAY!!
It's so scary---I'm proceeding slowly and cautiously....
and I haven't (nor do I plan to) quit my regular job any time soon!!

How exciting! It is good to hear of your work!

I know what ya mean. I am working per diem too. I am trying to exchange the set up to directly pay my corp. It will take some time and I too am not quiting my day job.

Welcome to the wonderful world of entrepreneurship. Thank you for responding!

I joined NNBA and have utilized their services from time to time.

My 'little' business has been going through a growth spurt this past month. Interestingly, the increases in referrals over the past few years had tended to be mostly in the late spring and summer months, but now I am experienceing a late fall increase.
The growth is coming from more Home Health Care Agency referrals and these represent clients who pay for my services out-of-pocket.

It was decided that due to the growth and subsequent increase in client load, I would not renew one of our two State contracts. The one chosen was the one which had not referred any new clients to us in the past year.

I believe this was an excellent business move. It not only freed up space for new clients, but also gave me some breathing room as far as work load is concerned.

Thought I'd just stop by and fill you in on the latest!

Peace,
Lois Jean

So how are we doing group?

I formed my S-Corp! I am actually on assignment this week for my business. The original 20 hrs discussed has turned into 40 for the week. Next week looks promising.

I am plugging away at trying to develop some other contracts. It is slow going.. but encouraging...

Let's hear from y'all!

Default Contracting
I am subcontracting through an existing contract at a clinic. I worked at the clinic through an Agency initially. I am doing per diem with no gaurantee of hours. Last weeks 20 hours turned into an all week job with me heading back tomorrow for at least 2 days there this week.

I am still plugging away at obtaining my own businesses contracts. Still going slow but steady with headway and education to the facilities about who I am and what I can do. I have found out I could easily sbcontract through home health agencies that have needs (they seem to be more willing).

Lois Jean? Are ou doing home health? I am wondering what kind of contracts you speak of for medicare? Could you tell us more?

:-)
