Thumbs up independent nursing
This all sounds so exciting and encouraging. I am brand new to this board. I have only been a nurse for 4 years, but always wanted to be self employed. Sounds like there are many more options than I had considered before. I have been School nursing for the last 2.5 yrs and just started doing home health on weekend a month. They are starting me out slow as requested and teaching me what I am not comfortable with or haven't done since working in the hospital. Maybe I;ll find a niche somewhere independently without having years of hospital experience. Wish I had it, but I am not willing to get it now for various reasons. I would love to hear more from other nurses in similar situations doing well independently or thinking about it. Boards like this are great for supporting each other. It's too easy to find environments, unfortunately, where nurses do not. We need to stick together and think smart! Therein will our power be.

Default Welcome Lavender
I have a couple business one is a self employement situation and my web page explains some of that the other is a business I own that empowers others and has great potential for anyone who is looking. What I like about this business is that the money is right and it doesnt interfer with what I am already committed to doing.

Kids with bithday tonight and alittle busy but check out some of my other post and you will see. Happy Hoildays

Hey G Angle does your Home Health business draw lab work on patients that are home bound?

Blood draws on homebound, yes......We have our CLIA certificate.
It is a fee free service, whereas we cannot charge for the draw. I would love to be able to add a service of homebound blood draws that we could be reimbursed for those that are not in the "skilled nursing" area of our business, however we are working on our Medicare and even under medicare we can not be reimbursed.

Default PICC certification
In response to the question about PICC certification, I found a course that was listed on the Nursing Spectrum website. It was a two day course. I found it very informative. IF you do a internet search you can also find video courses. I am now PICC certified but don't have any hands on experience. I am interviewing for a PRN position on an IV team this upcoming week. That is where I hope to gain my validation. I then intend to try to go out on my own with it. Good luck to you in your endevours.

Laurie

PS I am currently finishing up an IC contract with a hospital. I heard about this forum on NAIN. I am practicing as a sole proprietor but am considering incorporating.
