These are exactly the kinds of questions that are discussed when writing a business plan; they are great questions.

I recommend contacting your local Small Business Association (SBA) and your local Chamber of Commerce to see what classes are offered for you locally.

I took a class on Entrepreneurship last year. The information is invaluable. You write a business plan and learn within an unbrellas of experts in their field (accountants, lawyers, bankers, and several others) how to view your business dream and make it a reality. I recommend this class highly.

As far as the business license, I am sure there is a licensing board of some sort. This varies greatly from state to state. For example, WY does not require certification except in certain counties and Colorado requires a certain amount of hours and certificate to get certification and license within the state. Again, contact the local Chamber of Commerce or SBA for specific information in your area.

There may be a website that answers some of your questions in your state. What worked for me is to have people to discuss issues with in a class environment. The Entreprenuer Class is one of many offered. All topics in the book they provide and every imaginable scenario is discussed with learned professionals.

Here is a little something that I found via the Internet regarding S Corp. Deffiniition:

--------

Subchapter S Corporation

A Subchapter S Corporation is a general corporation that has elected a special tax status with the IRS after the corporation has been formed. Subchapter S corporations are most appropriate for small business owners and entrepreneurs who prefer to be taxed as if they were still sole proprietors or partners. When a general corporation makes a profit, it pays a federal corporate income tax on the profit. If the company also declares a dividend, the stockholders must report the dividend as personal income and pay more taxes. S Corporations avoid this "double taxation" (once at the corporate level and again at the personal level) because all income or loss is reported only once on the personal tax returns of the stockholders. For many small businesses, the S Corporation offers the best of both worlds, combining the tax advantages of a sole proprietorship or partnership with the limited liability and enduring life of a corporate structure.

Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing and how we can help.

CONGRATS DEE!

I am so excited that you are looking for a way to get your services out there! The SBA and you area chamber of commerce should be able to help you out. Nolo has great books are on picking a business structure, to suit your tax and income purposes and will also guide you through financial planning for optimal tax deductions! A good reason to go into business for yourself!

Keeping up with laws and taxes is a job but accountants are great for keeping those details straight! Find one you would trust like a good Dr. and let them guide you. Mine has been immensely helpful in all of this. I found that when I had things in place, building a case load was a much easier job and it has gone well. I am not worried about details because they are already worked out and I can concentrate on case building and patient care. I love it everyday!

Good luck in your endeavor!

Yesterday I met with a s.c.o.r.e. counselor for free! It is a great organization that has classes and is free for as many times as you need to go. They have lawyers and accountants and retired senior executives that all donate time and valuable information.
They can help you write your business plan and give you great advice. I highly recommend them.
Here is the web address to find a chapter near you.
Good luck!

One of the reasons I'm looking into nursing is the hopes of being an entrepreneur. I was going to go into nutrition to be a registered dietitian, but I feel that if I had a nursing base and then got some additional training in nutrition, I could find a good mix. I was wondering what kind of degree would be required to be a nursing entrepreneur? Do you need to have a BSN or MSN? I do plan on going to school through to a masters and becoming an ARNP...my goal is to be a diabetes educator.

Hello All
I am a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant and self-employed. I certainly becam e a S-Corp too and for the tax reasons and separation of my personal propert from my business.
Over the past two years it has been challenging to market my services to Attorney's but I havent given up.
About a year ago I fell into an opportunity to become a RN Examiner and I perform Ins Exams for applicant aplying for life/health or disability insurance. I am marketing myself to insurance Agents knowing the advantage of having a skilled RN going out and examining their clients rather than the roll of the dice so to speak. I am getting great exposure and in time the remote orders that are coming through me directly shoud increas alowing me to obtain a greater piece of the reimbursment the Ins Comp pays.
I also have a business called Family Unlimited Networks that in effect provided me with residuals income from my Tridigital E-Commerce Business. For examiple when a customer, client, or member of mine purchases Office Supplies through my business partnership with OfficeMax, I obtain a financial credit for that traffic I created. I have established business relationship with many small business including some Doctors, Dentist, Insurance Agents, I am working on a school district in my area now.
There isnt a family I know that doent have a computer or two in their home andtheir children use them for school and fun. The nice thing about this business is that for office products alone a singel 50 dollor purchase ( about two Ink Cartriages) and you get free next day delievery in most areas for most purchases). The convience along is creating new customers for me.
The real cool thing about my business here is that I have no AR, AP, Liability, Returns, SHipping , Employees, Literally NO OVERHEAD). Anyone interested in Learning more?
I have three business I am running.
Conventional Job Recovery Room Nurse (It as job( but I look at it as a Business revenue producer and Health Producer for my family and self)

As Nurses we have numerious door before us if only we open our eyes and dream.
