I formed my S-Corp! I am actually on assignment this week for my business. The original 20 hrs discussed has turned into 40 for the week. Next week looks promising.

I am plugging away at trying to develop some other contracts. It is slow going.. but encouraging...

Let's hear from y'all!

Yes.... Please do tell....

It is not like you are recruiting, selling, or advertising. For anyone who looks, Ted has his website on his profile page and we do that (those of uswho have their own web page etc.)

Please share what is new, what you are doing, and anything else that may enspire others to seek the Entrepreneural Nurse route (or share anything you wish... we would love to hear you brag Ted).

Not sure if I qualify to post on this illustrious site, but I am an independent RN. I believe I'm the first RN approved as a Medi-Cal (California Medicaid) provider. I'm working with a pediatric client, but setting my own hours etc. I've been approved since March 2002 and have just received approval for another six months of care. I don't negotiate my own rates, just take the Medi-Cal rate of $31.94 per hour. I may take some case management (there are cases run by LVNs who need an RN case manager) at $35.77 per hour. I'm an older RN, preplanning retirement, but I do wish I'd known about independent RNs about 15 years ago.

Check out independentrn.com. Needs membership to access the forum, but it's intelligent, supportive and really useful. Power to you all. JNJ

Oh, does anyone know why I'm listed as a junior member. What does this mean?

JNJ.. WELCOME.. You certainly do qualify as an Entrepreneur!

I will be researaching this avenue myself of meidcair billing. I am looking at relocating. It looks like you have to first "live" in the state you apply to and that may take some time.

A junior member is a newer member. To be honest, I am not sure what the turn around time / posting #'s are to be a "senior member" but you will find out soon enough. I hope we hear a lot more about how you are doing and your input.

Again welcome ad welcome to all the new posters!

I am thinking about setting up my own business when I finish my hypnotherapy certification. But don't really have a clue where to start...and would appreciate any pointers/advice!

Researchrabbit:

This is probably a good start for another thread. Let me go over some suggestions here and let's start and answer to another thread call, "How To Start YOUr Own Business".

Start with a business plan. I just completed a class through the local community college for noncredit. It is sanctioned through the local cahmber of commerce and small business association. This class is available nationwide. It is called, How to Write A Business Plan". This has been a very helpful class. There are classes like this available online nad similiar learning classes in various topics and detail.

Granted, it is not nurse related but business is business. It has been so helpful getting me started. I now have a board of members I can go to for, most often, free advice. I started my S-Corp thanks to this class.

I am in the middle of something right now but wanted to answer your response right away. Please let's keep this dialogue alive and let us learn from each other.

Thank you for the question.

Greetings!

I sent out notices to every physician in my area detailing 'the addition to services' regarding my business. Within one week after sending the letters out, I received 12 new referrals--all from area docs. What did I add? The monofiliment test. All of my clients who are diabetic or who have s/s of PVD are given this simple test--whether at home or at my clinics. The test takes about 30 seconds...the monofilaments are free from the US Government Department of Health and Human Services. They sent me enough to last probably a lifetime!

I do not charge my clients an extra fee for this. The docs have just increased my salary through the referral of their patients for foot care. Works for me!

Peace and Brightest Blessings of the Season!
