Hi. I don't know what medical directors and medspas get. I had been offered $30.00/hr.

When I was certified in botox and dermal fillers it was a course with many medical docs in it. The instructor said to charge 13 to 15 dollars per unit. A Botox vial can be used for many different clients, you just need to use it in 30 days after you use it. I've seen profits(not me personally) of about $3,000 dollars per vial or higher. If the one vial of botox costs $500 to 600 dollars that is a pretty good profit.

Then there are the dermal fillers that aren't multi used. 1 cc of a product can be from $450 to $600 per cc. Normal practice is to double that and some places triple it for a patient. Patient's have to pay per 1 cc at a time. Then there are doctor's offices that charge an additional amount for the visit. So a patient can be paying $1200 to $!800 per vial plus an office visit. Plus follow up visits.

I don't know exactly how med spas charge. But I had to laugh when I was offered $30.00 per hour, when I can be making them at least $500/half hour and at times $3000 in 45 minutes.
I am sure every place has its own pay structure. The only thing that stays the same would be botox or filler from the pharmaceutical company.

It would be interesting to hear what other pay structures people have worked with. I also wonder how it differs in different parts of the country.

I don't know if that helped or confused the question.

Hello All!

I am a new member and cardiac nurse seeking aesthetic RN training. I'm currently being "trained" in my friend's cosmetic surg office in So Cal, but looking for a certification course. Anyone interested in venturing to a course with me? Training can be costly, especially with travel. Some institutes may offer group discounts . . . or cut costs by sharing a room with a fellow RN =) Sorry gents, must room with a female . . . my fiance would be disturbed if I met up with a young buck.

Wow. I am very glad that I was directed to this thread by willitblend.
I have a lot of questions and thoughts running through my mind right at this moment. But I am also appreciative of much of the dialogue and information presented on this thread and will start to do my own investigation into this.
I am currently in NYC but heading down to NC and will be on a travel assignement. During this time I will be taking a Nurse estethician course.
I did notice in NYC many places are looking to hire nurses for their practice in this area.
Hey there is no shame in my game! LOL
I will gladly at this time work normal hours in a medical spa type place VS what I have been doing!
Thank everyone!

I too was trying to get into the field but the $1200 fee per class at the Institute was a bit steep for just one class! I did find someone local who also does training but she charges $1500 for one class! I mean yes, the treatments are expensive for the clients but come on....$1200 or $1500 for a day of training!!! Jeez, what a racket!

thank you for the excellent info!

I have not checked into it in detail yet but if you google isbe college in Hawaii there are some advanced para medical esthetic classes offered online..not sure if they are hands on since it's online but maybe you go in for a day of clinical? I plan to talk to the advisor to find out more info. Not sure if the online classes are approved for all state board requirements or not..it seems each state board should know what a nurse is allowed to perform with a RN license and/or if additional training/certificates are required?

but anyways google that school, the online classes are more affordable and if they offer the same info you would receive elsewhere, it may be a good option.

I have the same question... What percentage should the doctor receive for his role as medical director? Is it typical to give a percentage of each procedure to the doc or has anyone experienced a situation where you pay your sponsoring doc a flat fee to practice under his license? Also, how much does the product actually cost?...specifically botox and restalyne? I am trying to piece together a business model. Thanks.

OK, from one Florida nurse who's seen what the BON can do to an RN's career who was injecting illegally....

DON'T DO IT! They are NOT playing about that mess!

One of the aesthetic clinics around here had an RN who got busted twice for doing this. She was better at it than the docs...fabulous results. But she was doing it illegally.

She narrowly escaped jail time, and no, I am not kidding.

It *does* bother me that at the end of my CRNA training, I will be licensed to do epidurals, spinals, and all manners of peripheral nerve blocks. I know how to go in and pick up all the cervical and brachial plexus nerves for an interscalene block and play dangerously close to the apex of the lungs.

Yet my good friend, who owns her own aesthetic spa/massage studio, wants me to come in and do injections under the auspices of the medical director who currently covers her for her microderm and permanent cosmetics. I'm plenty competent - I can draw you the mechanism of Botox's action at the neuromuscular junction at an organic chemical level, and know how to apply that knowledge.

But it's illegal for me to do.

We are going to do laser hair removal, though. ARNP's *can* do that, in Florida.

I am an RN and I am interested in getting my esthetician license in the state of Missouri. I would be licensed to do the basic cosmetic esthetician services, ie: facials, etc. But I want to get into the medical side as well and am not sure how to proceed? Should I go to esthetician school and then get certified as a medical esthetician? Or should I bypass the esthetician school and just go and get certifications? I am currently an RN working on a medical floor in a hospital and have been an RN for 2 years. I would like to be able to work PRN in a hospital and part time as an esthetician but also be able to do botox, dermal fillers, etc..and eventually make the transition from hospital nursing into the skin care, esthetics field. Any advice would be much appreciated as to which route to go.
