I know of a nurse in Pueblo CO that trains in microdermabrasion, lamprobe, teeth whitening and other things if you would like her info you could mail me directly. She was also featured in the Nursing Spectrum last year.

I have checked their program out, is it worth the money as compared to much cheaper programs out there. I am confused on being certified--one of the programs I checked into gave you certification with only taking one of the 8 classes??? Currently I am working and being trained under a Dr. but want to be recognized throughout USA since I do take travel assignments. Is there any real guidelines for RN's in aesthetics? It appears many RNs are practicing via different training avenues.

A thought on the dermal fillers - can an NP order these for you? In our state an NP does NOT have to work under the direction of an MD (I'm in Arizona) and can act as a GP. Wondering if that would work for some/many of you?

How do I go about finding out the laws/statutes for operating such a business in my state?

See? I'm the curious type!
I to have many ?s regarding med aesthetics by RNs state to state..A.M.E.N. has some information regarding legislation and certification...maybe this will help you out. (association of medical esthetic nurses) check out their web site

It seems that there are no easy ways for this new field..If you become a liscenced esthetician (I did) then you still have to retake the exam in each state(or most of them) to practice as such...I think it is easier using your job training and then look into becoming an NP of this field...I don't know...i am very frustrated myself as I have been trying to get a job with MD group for 6mo...Good Luck

please do not feel you have to become an esthetician. You are a regisitered nurse!!!! You can take seminars on topics that tyou wish to perform and work as a nurse that does esthetics. In most states it is within scope of practice. Practices like microdermabrasion, serious skin treatments, massage, teeth whitening, permanent makeup can be done under your liscence and without MD supervision. I suggest that you see which procedures you would like to do and take seminars a nd set yourself up in practice. It is super easy. Try renting space form a chiropractor they usally have extra room and for about 259 a month you have a nice busy place to practice. Beleive me I have places nurses in these types of siutations and have myself practiced like that. Take the leap of faith and do it. Do not over analysis it. Review your scope of pratice regs for your state. Got to go for now. Let me know what state your form and maybe I could help.

Thank you for the advice. I am in New Jersey..they are very strict and have made grumblings that these are not in RN scope of practice....several RN's have gone to review with the board for microdermabrasion without an MD oversight. I am also not sure I cam financially afford to "open" an office/ room and buy my own equipment, as in NJ you can't "rent" rm space...I am interested in going to another state possibley, but I haven't figured the best state to practice in yet..I am still a novice in this field and classes are skyrocketting in their fees. I learned too late that I may not have needed an Aesthetics liscence, but I felt in the long run it gave me more creditabilty as well as giving me the background I lacked. I wish I had spent my $ on those seminars instead. But i am still optomistic that I can utilize these two liscences in one practice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

THANKS
Hello!
I did the nurse aesthetics course and am sooo disappointed. As one nurse put it, the docs are not very helpful due to scare of the malpractice. PLUS this is a great avenue for the docs to have a cash flow and ezzzzzy for them to turn a buck!! The instruction was top notch while there and they drop you like a "lead balloon" once they have your money.
Please accept my apologies for putting a negative spin on this, it is a true story and I invested over $8,000.00.
I know of a NP, been with 2 docs over 18 yrs and even they are reluctant to offer their assistance!!! She sought their advice before getting into the courses, OOOO Great!!! they said!! She paid over $12,000 and now the tune has shifted..."welllll, I just don't know...." they whinned!!!
I would love to be in this speciality!!! It was remarked by my instructor, "You have a great touch and will be excellent!"
Opinions welcome!!!! Best of Luck and I hope you will have a great positive adventure...as the song says: ".....It don't come easy...."please give it a go!!! and let me know

I have to agree with Patti. I went to a facial aesthetics training for nurses. The training was great while I was there. But they do not meet their promise of being there to answer your questions afterwards. They gave us order forms while at training so that we could order the chemical peeling agents from them later. Well my first order was fine, but then when I needed to place another order, they said that they do not offer those products and that I needed to order it from the manufacturer. They did not bother to tell me this until two weeks after I faxed my order. So I emailed them and said I was totally confused as to why they filled my order the first time but not the second time especially since it was their name, address, and phone number on the order sheet and not the manufacturer. I never got a response from them. So I contacted the manufacturer of the peeling agents and had to go through a big registration process and waiting period before placing my order. My point is I got my products late, thus put a damper on my business, because of this school that claimed I could order everything I needed directly through them. On their website, they now claim that their students can become certified aesthetic nurse specialists. I emailed them and said that I was a previous student and wanted to know how I could be certified. Again I never heard from them.

I thought I wanted to do Botox and Restylane and seriously researched the business in Florida and was very disappointed. It seems the MD's don't want nurses invading their territory. Even MD's that arent's interested in doing the procedures themselves do not want to cover a nurse under their license and malpractice insurance. I think the best bet is to look into other anti-aging products/therapies that don't require MD supervision.

Do any dermatologists do aesthetic things such as facial peels in their office? I don't think my dermatologist does. Thanks.

the cost is approximatley 1000.00 per class. ranging from 700-1200 dolllars. each class is about one day and the total cost for all the training they offer comes to around ten thousand dollars.
