Ok. I know you have to vent sometimes (a lot of times)! But, I want to know what you favorite part of your job is. Leaving to go home doesn't count! So, share your warm fuzzies about emergency nursing!

As for me, I think the part I will enjoy the most is seeing people who came in sick as a dog leaving feeling better.

I love the people I work with. MD's. PAC's.RN's, Tech's. etc. I love each and every one of them. We. atleast on out shift support and help each other. We work as a team-not like other shifts in out ED. We are sometimes closer than family. If I didn't work with these wonderful people I would not want to go to work. We care about each other. If one of us is down the others are there, no matter what, from the 20 yr old techs to the retirement age nurses-we couldn't do what we do without each other. To my last day I will love these people. no not one of them is normal, but together we are one hell of a team :p

when i have the most horrific night ever, and i'm wondering to myself why should i even be nursing because of understaffing, low pay, unappreciative patients and administration, the list goes on and all. but just every once in a while, someone comes up to in in church, or at the grocery store, or wherever, and says, "i remember you, you took care of me in the e.d., (or took care of my son, or grandpa, ect.) and they tell you how good a job you did. alot of the times i don't remember the patient at all, but to me that makes everything we as nurses go through seem worthwhile. just that tiny bit of appreciation goes a mile. it doesn't take much to make us feel appreciated, does it nurses?

when you're at church, or the grocery store and someone comes up to you and says, "you work in the e.r. right? you took great care of my grandpa about 2 weeks ago when he had that heart attack. i'm so glad you were there to start that iv, they always have trouble and have to stick him so many times. thank you so much." i might not even remember the patient, but that small bit of graditude sure does make everything seem worthwhile.

Of course! But our "toasts" usually consist of coffee, since we work nights. :chuckle

Hurrah !, for all the Blessed services you provide :)

And when we help people, in other areas like in Burn/Trauma rehab. for instance, likewise - the satisfactions are the same.

Can you imagine how Jesus smiles on us when we simply choose to encourage people

I love my job because....when I wake up in the morning, I know when I go to work..although someone may not pat me on the back or tell me thank you...I helped someone...even if it was by tying them down and giving them charcoal...I love the doctors I work with, they are a great source of information and I learn something new every day...I, for the most part love the nurses I work with, because they are the only ones that see the humor in putting the 14g iv and the 20 fr foley catheter in the drunk that's been in twice this week...I love that everyday, I never know what might come in the door, and maybe its a baby we deliver or one we saved from a car accident, or someone's grandmom from the fall they took at the nursing home...again...I simply love what I do...despite all the challenges the patients may throw at me...It makes me a stronger more patient person...even if I've given the sickle cell pt their 4th shot of 6 mg Dilaudid and 50mg Benadryl...I still go home satisfied that I did something good...because quite frankly, I'm too tired to feel anything else...
