Parkland Critical Care and Trauma Internships

hey everyone, i've just heard about the parkland internship (the cc and trauma one) and it sounds fantastic!! i'm wondering if there is anyone who did this internship (particularly in the last 3 years or so) who would be willing to share their opinion of it. i'm also wondering if after the internship other hospitals would accept you into their er? (is the experience too varied or is there enough to go into any of the areas you rotate thru?) hopefully that makes sense to others, i feel i'm kinda rambling! lol

parkland's a great place to learn, you couldn't go worng there. most places require that you sign a contract for a certain length of time in exchange for taking the time to train you.

If you go to Parkland, you will see a little bit of everything. I would think as long as you are a competent nurse with good recommendations you would be able to transition into any ER after your contract is through. Good luck.

The following is an excellent article on the program, applicant qualifications, and the application process. Check your school databases, I think I had to use interlibrary-loan. However, you get it will be worth it.

LabCat01, thanks for sharing the article. I no longer had an electronic copy. I discovered the article during my first year in nursing school. It was also listed on the program's recruitment poster.

Working at Parkland would for sure be an experience. You can learn things you'd never expect to learn so quickly. I have been out of school for a year and well there isnt many people that have been there longer than me in the ER. So Im already doing triage and trauma hall and getting trained to charge. If your looking for experience and are ready to work your ass off its worth it. You will move up quickly and have experiences your peers at other hospitals wont ever get or it will take them years to get.
