Happy Emergency Nurses Day

To all you fellow Emergency Nurses, I thought I'd wish you a Happy Emergency Nurses Day and week.

It seems as though my hospital has forgotten us, and chooses instead to inform us that we need to increase our ratio to 9 patients per nurse now that 1/4 of the staff has left or cut down their hours. Also, a new incentive program has been established where a $100.00 bonus is to be given upon the completion of 5 incident reports on fellow staff.

What a thoughtful way to celebrate all the hard work we do :angryfire

So, what has your hospital done to celebrate Emergency Nurses Day/Week?

It would be nice to hear that there are better places out there than the pit I am in now.

Does it count if you write yourself up? I totally would do that.

GREAT IDEA :yelclap::yelclap::yelclap: I'm having fun just thinking of all the possible write-ups that I will be coming up with.

Think I will do that after I get back from taking my 'I'm Sick.... of that place' days off. Thought it was an appropriate way to self-celebrate Emergency Nurses Week.

But, it is really nice to hear that some people out there do get a little thoughtfulness.

I don't work until tomorrow . . so we shall see. I started in a new ER in a bigger town. So far - it isn't anything like your ER loricatus. I'm sorry that your management is so cutthroat.

Happy Emergency Nurses Day! :balloons::monkeydance:

I'll probably be looking at y'all for help in the coming weeks . . . . city ER is substantially different than rural ER.

I know it's past, but want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that are ER nurses and hope that something was done to show appreciation-I have to admit I am one of the nurses who now sits at a 'desk job' (yes, believe it or not, still immense mental stress from all the *&()^ politics-but I try to remember and remind my staff that we are nurses first and do the right thing for the patients)-anyway, one of 'them' that thinks what you all do is absolutely amazing and takes so much dedication and expertise, my proverbial hat is certainly off to each and everyone of you!!

I've told some that if I ever get to the 'boiling' point where I have to get back to directly taking care of patients, I'd beg some ER manager for a chance to learn...

Happy Emergency Nurses Day!

The docs in our ER bought the nurses flowers, and our manager bought a big cake, and little present package for ALL the nurses in the department. It was a nice little thought.

As for money for writing up incident reports? I'd say beat 'em at the their own game.....Have a meeting of the nurses and decide that you're going to write up incident reports for every near miss that one of your nurses averted due to quick thinking and knowledge and experience. Not only would they still be valuable for safety reporting issues, but they would be painting the staff in a good light. Rather than feeling spied on, maybe people would feel recognized for their work. Just a thought.

Yes happy EMERGENCY NURSES WEEK! We got pizza from the doc's, good pizza not the cardboard stuff. Free cute little pocket travel CPR masks, and a giant colorful poster celebrating ER Nurses week in the back corner by the break room where none of the pt's can see it! Sorry for you in the pit. Hugs to you, and we are all freakin awesome!:monkeydance:

WOW!!! Money for writing up each other?!!? What a way to inspire teamwork!!! Just like Press Ganey.

Our ER is doing something different every day this week, like Monday we got brownie pizzas only I couldn't eat either one since they bought one with peanut butter and one with strawberries on it and I'm anaphylactically allergic to both. But it was a truly nice gesture anyway. Now I'm off the rest of the week and miss out on all the other goodies:(.

Anyway, Happy Emergency Nurses Week!!!

We got pizza earlier in the week. Our ADON made us a yummy banana dessert. We were given Emergency nurses week folder/organizer thingy. It has a notepad and slots to file things like your incident reports (j/k), your CEUs or organize your bills or something.. Kinda like a file thing. Anyway. It was nice to be recognized and appreciated. They were going to have food every other day and in the nights too to try to catch everyone.

Do you work at Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport PA? Home of The Little League Baseball World Series? They are notorious for encouraging coworkers to write each other up. Sad isn't it, that we fall for this crap.

I would have told them happy Emergency Nurses day by not showing up. Considering the ENA's stand as far as pt ratios in the ER goes, which is 4:1, it would be a cold day in hell be for I would show up and risk my license and take care of 9 patients.

As far a the incident report issue goes, I would be filling one out each and every time I was taking care of more than 4 pts.

I would write up an incident report every time you feel unsafe and that your pt's care is compromised by short staffing. Make your nurse manager aware of the short staffing and note that nothing was done to correct the problem. If all the nurses combined efforts instead of battling each other, maybe it'll force your ER to at least hire agency or travelers if no f/t are avail.

I am so sorry to hear about your ER loricatus. We got a poster taped to the door in our locker room wishing us a Happy Nurses Week. Yahoo! Big spenders I know.

Happy Emergency Nurses Week Everyone:balloons:
